my floormat also does not move a millimeter. I'm guessing heavy bolster wear as well and you're thinking of aftermarket seats... sparco evo2 perhaps?

I remember researching this before I bought my Evo and there are two cruise controls that people are using. I have a Rostra but I can't remember the other brand, I just remember that only Rostra was available locally.
anyway I'd rate the Rostra as pretty damn poor. it's better than nothing, but mine was near $400 installed with a clutch switch and stubbly stalk that looks like it belongs in a 1986 S-10. fortunately they put it nearly flush against the dash low on the left side of the steering column, so you have to deliberately look for its ugliness. but thank god it's not the standard stalk which is longer with a ghetto boot on it. --search here or rostra's site, you'll see it.
cosmetics aside it sucks. it has a hard time setting or resuming on anything but perfectly flat ground, and even then it's only 80% likely. it often hunts in a 3-4 mph 'band', drives like your grandma does, stabbing at the gas every second or two because she can't hold her ankle steady at 45 mph.
it also has no clue about the Evo's acceleration capability and if you resume from >10mph less than the set speed, it'll romp the throttle fairly good and when the car starts accelerating hard it'll lift, which of course causes a nice chop since the Evo is a high boost turbo. it wouldn't be nearly as noticeable in a fast naturally aspirated car.
so whatever that other brand of unit is, I'd try that instead. here in the flatlands, there's no way in hell I'd do without cruise though. I'm not happy with the results of my ~$400, but I'd pay it again if I had to (and still complain!).
