Caliper question

Ok...The calipers on the EVOs are aluminum, right? The red (or more accurately the CLEAR) is peeling up on 3 out of 4 of my calipers...not to mention, they are nasty dirty.

My real question is: Can the calipers be polished?

or... Would the rubber seals and stuff stand up to the curing temps if I got them re-powdercoated?

I have not had a problem with any chiping/peeling at all so far.

Caliper peel are a norm for the 8's. Never heard of anyone polishing them, but there's a how-to on repainting in the how-to section.

Im aware about the how to, and that the peeling is normal. My car spends more time on the track than on the street so I figured Id make them both look unique as well as wouldn't have to worry about every scratching them or having them peel again.

I see no reason why you couldn't polish them or powdercoat them. Just buy a new o-ring kit since after doing either of the above you would most likely want to replace all the seals. Polishing and then clear powdercoating would look nice for a show Evo. Good luck.

If you take them to the dealer you can get them replaced under warranty. My friend uses carnauba on them and has had no problems. I don't know if this helps.

Can you get the calipers replaced even if you do not have a warranty? If so that would be awesome.

Sure the dealer would love you but you would also pay a fortune...

Instead attempt something like what was done in this thread.

yes you can polish them. i thought about it when i had mine chemicaly dipped and re painted. i sanded the front of the calipers and thought about it but the time and effort would not have been worth it for me. if you do polish them just have them clear coated and they will be great. love to see if you do it!

I read that but misunderstood that I could just take it in and get it done free. Like a recall or something.
