Exhaust Manifold Paint

I want to paint my exhaust mani. Can I just buy high temp paint from an auto parts store? Is there a temperature requirement that I need? Any advise from anyone that has done this? Any recommendations on a brand of paint? I'm just sick of looking at the rusty looking mani. Might even paint the heat shield... Eventually I will get it ported and coated. I need a quick project this week!

I'm wondering this too. My guess would be what you suggest or BBQ paint since that has a very high temp rating too. Not sure what high temp auto paint has for a rating...

A buddy just bought some high temp auto paint for his exhaust. He got it at Napa and it's rated at 1200F.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think 1200* is enough.

Anyone have any pictures?

With an uncoated manifold 1200* will probably not be enough. You can use VHT flameproof ceramic header paint which is good to about 2000*F if you get the right one. They also have ones rated to 1500* which are actually more common.
