I wouldn't worry about it. If it has the plastic one and it leaks then upgrade. There is no real difference in the 2 other than the "bling factor" of saying you have the MR one.

YMMV,
Greg

That's totally wrong. My MR valve holds my boost MUCH better than the stock plastic one. They are different internally also. Not a lot of bling there is there? Unless you take it off all the time to show your friends.

will not hold any more boost than the computer will allow it to... he didn't mention that the he's upgrading the computer, or installing a boost control.

Irrelavant. Regarding the funconality of a BOV/DV, the MR works better than the stock GSR valve. It hold the boost you give it better. The stock valve can't even hold stock boost!

Clarification points:

1) The US MR has the same plastic BOV as all the other US Evos. I saw it in person at a meet a few weeks ago.

2) The MR DV holds boost MUCH better. I am running a boost gauge/controller and when I installed the MR valve, it jumped from 1.4 KPa to 1.55 KPa. That is significant. I've since adjusted it to 1.4 KPa again.

3) Not really bling since it's buried under a lot pipes and hoses (making it a ***** to install). Wasn't really impressive when I took it out of the box, but the spring is much stiffer than stock.

Hope that helps.

Sound is almost exactly the same. I have an open element air filter, so I could hear the stock one, too. No big change in the sound. Just a very noticeable difference in holding boost.

Yes. But it depends on how closely your car is scrutinized.

Probably not. The stock Evo plastic one reminds me of the stock 2G BOV, except its a little better. Not worth fooling with.
