How does MR deserve a $4500 over EVO??
NJ and JT, Don't tell me that refinements don't matter on the Evo. Cause they do...if they didn't Mitsu would send 700 GSRs over and the rest would be RSs. People want refinement to make driving life more liveable....period.
There is one thing you have to remember when getting an RS. Due to the fact that Mitsu recoginzed the market for the RS. They only sent about 700 over to the US. And they are having trouble getting all those sold! How is the market going to be when you try to resell it. And don't tell me you are going to drive it till it drops....cause that is flat out BS. The used market for that car is going to be almost zilch, none, notta, zero. Heck it is pretty much that way now. So don't tell me the MR isn't worth the extra money...cause when it comes time to sell it....the market for my MR is going to be quite better than your RS.

NO, refinement didnt matter... at least NOT TO ME.
I wouldn't have spent 30k on a econobox looking for refinement....
Thats the problem with today's car... none of them are focused (maybe except the
Lotus Elise).. none of them could do one thing well.. For example, the E30 M3... a
focused sports sedan that was made to do one thing well... GO FAST. Then BMW
start to put refinement into it... you end up with today's fat E46.
Anyways.. I thought the main focus of Evo is also performance... so with MR's
extra cost... I expect something more that the Evo is made for... more performance
Not more refinement.
Screw the HID, the softer shocks, the name brand wheels that cost a ton...
How about slightly bigger brakes, adjustable shocks, adjustable front strut mount,
and wheels that's not only just a bit lighter BUT A LOT WIDER!??
Evo should easily fit 17x9s... getting BBS with 17x8 doesn't mean much over the
stock Enkeis (again in term of performance).
Oh ya, my performance doesn't include straight lines... if you know what i mean.

All in all, this is just my personal opinions... so what if I think MR doesn't worth the
extra money as long as you do. It's your money.

nj1266, if you read the article you would read that the RS dynoed higher than the MR and GSR.
You can speculate that the RS lost on the road course due to driver error, but the same could be said on the MR at the dragstrip. The MR put down near identical trap speeds as the RS, even though it was down on power and up on weight.
Trap speed is an indication of an engines power band and gear ratio. The MR's trap speed as close as it is to the RS is a classic indication that it has potential do to a better 1/4 time. But whatever, I choose not to speculate.
What matters is that particular MR with worse acceleration still won around the track while remaining street civilized, and that particular RS, the "track special" came in dead last on the road course.
One thing is clear, it's a hell of a lot easier to add more power to an MR... than to add ABS... to an RS.

Uh, what did you expect since it's what, 95 pounds heavier than the RS and in this case was also down on power to the RS. The weight difference will always be the same between the two but engine output is luck of the draw.
The price difference betwen the MR and straight is $4000, not $4800.

For $7000 the MR should totally DOMINATE the GSR and the RS, not win by 0.27s and 0.35s respectively. For a performance prespective the MR is totally overpriced and that is what I have been saying all along.
No one know for sure why the RS lost by 0.35. It could be the brakes, the wing, the vortex generators, driver error. It could be many things. MT could have eliminated the wing and vortex generators as variables by putting them on the RS and seeing what happens, but alas they did not think of it. So we cannot know for sure.
I can tell you that most people that race at the club racing level do NOT have ABS on their cars. Some of those who have it even disable it. The RS's brake problems are easily solved with race pads, Motul 600, and SS brake lines.

Let it go, Mitsubishi has offered a different trim model, that's it.

Exclusive to MR:
Bilsteins (though it's 30% softer)
BBS wheels (still tiny at 17x8 with the same tires as regular EVOs)
6 speed
special color
??????????.. anything else?
How does it deserve a hefty $4500 MSRP increase over regular EVOs..????

JT you said this "NO, refinement didnt matter... at least NOT TO ME."
See that is your problem....you think in terms of yourself only! Mitsu doesn't think like that....they need something to appeal to the vast majority that are in the market fot this car. That statement is nothing more than the "kiddish" and "moronic" crap that circulates this board. I now see why the subie boards make fun of this site.
People for the most part want PW, PL, AC, radio, Sound dampening, and so on. To say that car makers need to strip their cars of these things to please a 1/2 percent (if that) of the automobile market is just retarded! Get over your ego dude, the world doesn't revolve around you or your 30 grand!
Look at it this way. Do you think the GSR is worth the extra money than the RS? It should, it has more refinements. Just as the Mr has more refinements than the GSR.
So please lose that attitude that your 30k is better than someone elses.
You also said this...."Thats the problem with today's car... none of them are focused (maybe except the Lotus Elise).. none of them could do one thing well.."
I beg to differ! If that is the case why did you buy an Evo?! On the same token....Why did you buy any car for that matter?! It seems nothing will please you and your "hard core performance" attitude. The evo in any form far exceeds any car in its price range(s) in terms of performance. Any magazine article will tell you that let alone any Evo owner.
