Well well well...The numbers are in and it seems that the EVO RS beat the EVO MR on the drag strip, in all 0-xxx categories, lost in the braking (expected since there is no ABS), tied on the skid pad (0.95 each), BARELY lost by 0.35 second on the raod course, and lost by 0.8 mile in the slalom. The funny thing is that GSR beat both the MR and the RS in the slalom and came 2nd on the road course.

So is the MR worth the extra money when it comes to performance? It seems that the answer is NO.

The MR doesn't really cost that much more than a VIII with all those accessories (HID, gauges, etc.) As a matter of fact, I think it's close to the same price.

I just checked the MR cost $7,000 more than the RS and $4,800 more than the GSR. These are MSRP prices taken from carsdirect.com. And what performance edge do you get for the $7000? 3/10 of a second on the road cousre. That comes down to $2333 per tenth of a second. And 0.8 mph in the sllom for $7000.

No thanks. I will keep my $7000 and get a $1700 JIC FLTA2 suspension that will make the car unbeatable by the MR. The rest of the money can be used on any mod that I like.

Evo VIII w/ Sun Sound & Leather package (Only way to get HIDs), Sports Meter Kit, Sports Pedal Kit, and Vortex generator (all standard w/ MR edition) comes out to $34,589 according to www.mitsubishicars.com "build & price" section.

The MR in standard trim has an MSRP of $35,499. So, the MR is only about $1,000 more and that's for the 6 speed gearbox, BBS wheels, and upgraded suspension. That's a bargain if you ask me.

GSR is not a trim in the u.s. thats only in asia... the real gsr is a six speed, which japan has... use to be the best trim before the MR came out... ok thats it ...

I guess you didn't read the article yet; it's not just about the numbers. Then again I expect people that own RS, VIII and MR to each defend their model with a vengeance.

1. For serious track freaks and for the price, RS.

2. Price independent to get all the coolest goodies, MR.

3. Compromise between # 1 and 2, GSR.

They are all great cars, and very very similar.

I chose #1 for the reasons stated above.

I did not get my copy yet. But I enjoy the objective numbers more than the subjective driver impressions. I read 4 car mags and I am amazed about the different subjective impressions that drivers have about the same car. In one magazine the EVO is said to understeer, in another it is said to oversteer. Impressions are very driver dependent.

I am glad that the RS did well. For the buck it is the best performance bang. 3/10 on a road course could be driver dependent. As mentioned in the other thread that 3/10 could be the result of the lack of the sport ABS and EBD as well as a wing. Perhaps a set of race pads, Motul 600, and SS lines will improve the RS's braking. If you hit the track then you must do these upgrade anyway.

In my book you do not buy an EVO for the sunroof, leather and HID. The Sunroof reduces structural rigidity and adds weight up top where you do not need it. Leather on an EVO is very unEVO like. This is a raw performance car, not a luxury car.

If you care about performance the RS is the car to get. $7000 cheaper than the MR and very close in performance on the road course and even faster in a straight line.

Best "deal" =evo 8, All the creature comforts to commute to work in it and the goods to go to the track on weekends.

Best performance = RS, Duh... no AC, basically stripped only add ons are go fast parts. This is your affordable track car to whup porshes with.

Best period = MR. All the creature comforts +, go fast bits, exclusivity and bling Mitsu can muster.

Ideally I'd like one of each, until then I'll take the straight 8!

IMO -of course

Actually the EVO RS comes with AC. At least in CA and in 2004 it did. I am pretty sure of that. It is not fun owning a car w/o an AC in CA.

Can you please teach me now that the numbers on acceleration are out and the RS beat the MR in EVERY CATEGORY of straight line acceleration? Are you going to admit that you ARE WRONG about all your theory that the MR will put more power with the 6 speed and will be faster in the 1/4 mile? Please come back and TEACH me. Please tell me how your EIGHT years of experience lead you to the conclusion that the MR will be faster than the RS. I guess the testing by MT proves that your theory and EIGHT years of dragging expreience is not worth crap.

the weight has nothing to do with it their like 5 pounds off because of vortex and other small things added, they all have the same power for 05, special editions are just a last ditch to sell some 8's.

its a great car if u wana buy an evo for 05. but dont act like its a gt2 vs a turbo porsche.
