While I agree that you could build a similar car for less, for what it is, it is an absolute bargain. Mitsubishi is also very smart to keep the production run to 100 as that is about as many as I think they will sell at that price, cause although to evo afficianados this car is the holy grail, to most non-car people...it's just a funny looking grey lancer.
Still. Kudos to Mitsubishi racing and I wish I could own one...

Comparing the UK lower model EVO prices to the FQ400, I see a US price of about 56,000 - 68,000 dollars. Standard MR 260 = 23,999 pounds and and FQ300 = 28,999 pounds.
46,999/23,999 = 1.96, 46,999/28,999 = 1.62
1.62 * 35,000 (US MR) = $56,733
1.96 * 35,000 = $68,543
46,999/23,999 = 1.96, 46,999/28,999 = 1.62
1.62 * 35,000 (US MR) = $56,733
1.96 * 35,000 = $68,543

I think the first instinct for everyone is to think about speed. We know you can make a beast of an EVO for a lot less. But it will still be a modded USDM EVO. Not that that's a bad thing, but what if someone happened to want something rare. Like oh say 100 cars. And they wanted it to be fast, but keep it stock, and still be able to tear up on Porsches and such. And they happened to want an EVO and live in the U.K. Tell me you wouldn't get this.
I mean sure we can take a base EVO and mod it up and beyond FQ400 specs. But maybe someone happens not to want to mod the s*** out of their car, and wants a stock car that can perform like this. And it just helps that it's very limited production.
Personally, I'd rather take a base EVO and mod it to beyond those levels, but you can't help but look at it from a different perspective.
Plus people didn't take into consideration that in U.S. currency, it really wouldn't mount up to 86k or whatever that number was. Remember their base EVO is equivalent to like 40k U.S. currency.

Why is the Euro license plate tall, narrow, and white on the front of the car, and short, wide, and yellow in the back? It's an interesting difference and I hope someone can answer this intelligently.

.... sorry had to say it....
