EVO IX vs. EVO VIII
hey, i love the looks and i'm jealous.. kinda wish i had waited on the 9 rather than getting an '05 8. but like so many '03 and '04 drivers said when the MR/'05s came out, I've already enjoyed my 8 for however long i've had it and i can't say i really regret my decision. i love my car and that's that. i'm fairly sure my next car will be an evo, probably a 9, depending on how hard it is to tune around that MIVEC. and BTW, **** the 10 and that 2.4L bull****. as far as the new evo being 300hp, think about the whp that the current evo8s have, if you look at some of the dyno runs, i'm fairly sure that they understated the power, it's possible that MMC just released the actual numbers or they are understated again. in either case, i'm hoping the 9 to be the best out yet and released in america as so.. that way i have something to look forward to.
I hope we don't get short-changed this time around. I don't know about most people, but I would prefer to pay a little more and get something closer to JDM spec than another watered-down version. It would also be nice to have a broader spectrum of options & accessories (e.g. Ralliart) available too.
does anyone know if the evo IX will come with side air bags? I went with an STI. the VIII didn't come with them contributing to its side impact rating being what it is. I can't sacrifice safety for a second around a track when all I do with it is HPDE.
I've driven the MR and have done the skip barber racing school in a tiny formula dodge, but I don't take safety lightly ever since my 2001 M3 almost certainly saved my life this past summer. The IX would be my daily.

i didn't get a new steering wheel cause it didn't have an airbag, im kinda worried about safety myself...
i see where your comming from, roll cages seem safe, but in order to get it in don't you have to strip your car of seats and all?

And I don't know how much rigidity a roll cage would really add for a side impact since it doesn't do much for the door area....
To put it a simply as possible...
The IX is still an EVO 7,8 but with more R&D in stock parts and aerodynamics (from the rally project).
Now what does that mean?
It means for everyone who keeps it stock or near stock it's a big change.
For those who don't keep it stock and don't want ACD+SYAC it's basically no change.

The IX will have ACD, I presume (just like the '05 VIII); it's S-AYC that may/may not be on the US version. If you're staying stock and moving up from an '03 VIII, then I think it will be a noticeable improvement. If you're moving up from an '05 MR then it probably won't be a huge change.
i dont post that much..im on the fence about the car..i dont see it as a huuuge difference..what i do know is that the cam setups people have been running for years in their dsm's and now evo's won't work!! And overall is the motor witht the mivec gonna hold up to extreme modding?!?! this is mitsu's first variable cam timing head and i wouldn't expect it to be that refined/that great their first time around!! it might be more of a hastle in the long run... Plus more computers (for mivec) and new am parts that we (the US) has to wait for!!! I think they should have called it the Evolution VIII.V
