Plus more computers (for mivec) and new am parts that we (the US) has to wait for!!! I think they should have called it the Evolution VIII.V
This is definately NOT Mitsubishi's first MIVEC head. Mitsubishi has had MIVEC almost as long as Honda has had VTEC, and a lot of reviews have said that MIVEC is more refined with a better overlap of the 2 cams and a smoother power band.

I also don't see how changing the head to MIVEC would affect the modability of the engine. Most of the engines strength is in it's bottom end and all MIVEC is doing is adding 2 cam profiles anyway, not a big change.

I also don't see why some of the cam profiles that have been developed for the VIII can't be used for the IX. Not the same camshafts but the same profiles. Maybe those profiles can be used for the "hotter" MIVEC profile and the standard profile can be used for the "ordinary" MIVEC profile?

The Evolution VIII.V is the MR. The IX seems to be a MR.V or MR+

We dont' know if it'll have the following for the US model

1. S-AYC
2. MIVEC
3. MR Darken head lamps/tail lamps
4. New darken leather seats.
5. Auto Climate control
6. Magnesiem turbos
7. Carbon Trim.
8. Black steering wheel
9. 2 Dins

We'll wait until the NY auto show and see what is added for our model . It would not surpise me if we do not get the MR version of the IX until later. It's also likely that we would not get MIVEC, Mag turbos, or S-AYC. I'm just hoping for the new goodies with the DOT legal MR head/tail lamps to add to my ride.

No comments until the USDM version is announced.

STi what Com'on Subaru is there a spec C to keep up with alreadly faster evo's

If you don't get those things then the only real difference between the VIII and IX would be the new bodywork. What would be the point of Mitsubishi even releasing the IX?

Also I don't think there is an MR version of the IX just yet anywhere in the world?

I need side impact air bags and a modern interior (hopefully better quality). This hopefully happens with the X redesign.

I said almost as long. Honda released VTEC in 1989 (but the first car I can find that used it was the NSX in '90/'91). I think Mitsubishi has had MIVEC since around 1990, so 15years (but the first car I can find that used it was in '93). I don't know why they haven't put it on the 4G63 before, maybe because the 4G63 was already in production (since late '80s), maybe the WRC rules didn't allow it, maybe they were happy with the 4G63 as it was, maybe they thought that they could get better improvements in other areas first (looking at the new power and torque curves MIVEC has made only a slight difference)?

If Subaru Brings over the Spec-C I might get one of those. As much as I like me Evo, the Spec-C does better laptimes around Nurburgring according to Best Motoring, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Keep in mind that the times at the Nurburgring were for the Evolution IX GSR (full equipment and no magnesium turbo). The Spec C is closer to the IX RS (or maybe GT), both of those cars are more race ready (lacking some "comfort" equipment). The RS (and even GT) should be faster around the Nurburgring than the GSR that BM tested because the RS & GT are lighter and have the magnesium turbo that gives more torque. The Spec C might still be faster but the IX would be a lot closer.

i've 'heard' that Mitsu will ditch the RS and base EVO, and the EVO9 will be around 305-310hp and come more like the MR equipment

Obviously this is just a rumour regarding the USDM IX, but I thought it was interesting. This guy works in the motor trade (not for Mitsu though).

I wait and read all the post's and see what people think of them and see how hard the are to modify. I am wondering how much dyno flash will charge to tune them if they can. Right now all this seem like speciiulation. I do like the look of it.
