For the record, I have to say this. Having a Variable valve timing type of engine didn't deter the Honda guys from modding it, tuning it. In fact, I think it's the whole VTEC crowd that started the whole honda craze.

And you think just having a Variable valve timing engine will stop and deter aftermarket companies to research and develop new products for the MIVEC EVOs?? HA!! If there is demand (i.e. $), the supply will follow (i.e. new products). Hasn't time proven itself over and over again?

Variable Valve Timing did not stop tuners from going after the STi. I would think that most tuners would be excited about this! At the very very least, this could mean less lag on a very high-powered setup. I will wait until I drive a IX to make an assessment. But if low end is improved then you have an ungodly powerful engine with a smoother and hopefully broader power band.

This may be a stupid question ... but is the new engine just that ... a new engine?

Its not longer the 4G63? I just assumed it would be a 4G63 with MIVEC
