Wohoo, new start making them out of the Evo Estate wagons. a really fast, good handling, green/ cheap to drive car, with lots of space. You can flame away but they would sell.

The technology is still in it's infancy, but everyone knows that electric motors have more torque.
and yeah it would be weird driving it, no exhaust or turbo spool, I would hazard a guess at one gear does all, no need for a gearbox. just hit the go pedal and weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, it will sound like the car in the cannonball run

the Evo Miev is supposed to have run in a rally over the weekend, if anyone finds the results of this car please post them.

mitsu does it again, instead of fixing the transmission problems they have, they get rid of them all together. seriously though, this would save mitsu. this concept could be used in many fashions, not just cars, trains, or semis. i rather not pay for gas ever then drive 110 rarely. definately would buy this for acceleration alone.

 

I would like to see more range but all in all sounds like a good deal to me

 

Well, I did some more thinking, and....

Hate to break it to you, but 1,528 ft*lb at the wheels isn't all that
impressive. A S2000 makes about 2,280 ft*lb at the wheels in first
gear:
crank torque * trans ratio * diff ratio = wheel torque
153 * 3.634 * 4.10 = 2280ft lbs

And we all know how much torque a S2000 has

 

I don't know. I think if the world of electric performance was all that glorious than Honda would have came out with something already. It is possible but harder to achieve, that is prob why we havent seen the all new hybrid NSX yet.

 

i definitely see this as a viable product in the near future. why? namely because my last job was with a company that developed the very same sort of technology (in wheel adaptive motors).

there are still a few problems though. one, the weight of the batteries (though new lithium technologies are helping greatly with this), the cost of the batteries (again, lithium prices are coming down), and the ride quality/dependability of placing the motors in the wheels (think 75lbs of unsprung and somewhat delicate components).

i'm hoping the figure it out, if for no other reason than making front wheel drive vehicles "instant hybrids (not to mention 4wd)" by just slapping two of them in the rear. i honestly can't wait to see what pans out, but from what i've seen, its freaking sweet.

how about everyone who wants an electric car and wouldnt go insane driving one should buy one. So lets say half of the U.S. is driving electric gas prices will drop demand will drop alot. Then I can get cheap gas again.

 

Was poking around on my rally forums, and I found an interesting link and thought I would share. Seems that mitsubishi has converted an Evo IX to a full electric vehicle for competition in a road rally in Japan.

I still like the petrol fueled car, but this seems like and interesting concept.
