I would say that there is nothing to be concerned about!

The Evo 9 is a "evolution" of the CT9A platform that has been available for a couple years now, and every year and iteration has brought about improvements in both performance and reliability (arguable).

The chassis and main drivetrain components are the same as the Evo 7 and Evo 8, both of which Mitsu. has had plenty of time to iron the bugs out of.

From what I understand, every mechanical component changed on the Evo 9 should be "better" than the replaced components from the Evo 8, and I see no reason to be concerned.

There is always going to some quirks with the initial releases but it shouldn't be serious enough to cancel your order.

Isn't that when the EVO X will be out?

I don't trust Mitsu when it comes to a complete overhaul of the car. Look what they did to the Eclipse (2nd Gen vs 3rd Gen)!!!

Nonetheless, my '03 has proved to be an amazing machine. I take good care of her and she takes good care of me. Just break her in like you're supposed to.
Same here, I got my 03 in April and nothing has went wrong with it besides the clutch which was my fault.

my 03 has no problems. i would say that 90% of the time its improper technique or driver error than the car breaking on it's own. treat her well and she'll treat you well!!!

I bought mine in April '03. Not a single problem on mine. On stock clutch at 17000 miles. Still pulls hard and gives me everything I demand of her. Best quality car I've ever owned!

It's refreshing to hear that a lot of '03 owners are getting the performance and quality they demand of their Evo. There's numerous threads on here that indicate problems with the Evo and warranty issues. This should serve as an example of how little one has to worry about getting the first IX.

Oh I'll treat her right. No hard standing starts (I prefer corners and rolling acceleration), I'll let her warm up before a romp, and let her turbo cool down before shutting her off. Her revs will be well matched for downshifts as well. Of course we'll both get some play time at the track after her break in.

Can you explain letting the turbo cooling down before shutting the car off. Is there a manual for all of this, shiet I hope I don't mess this thing

Search around for "Turbo Timer" and you should get all the answers you are looking for.

I'll make it easy for you. If you're driving around slowly for the last 5 minutes of driving before you stop, your turbocharger won't be significantly hotter than the rest of the motor. However, if you are driving hard the turbo can get so hot the metal actually glows. While the motor is running, the turbocharger has fluid pumped through it to cool it. So if you shut the motor off with the turbo hot, it just cooks itself instead of a being cooled off by circulating fluid. A turbo timer is a device that doesn't come with the car that will continue to cool the turbo after shut off. Without this, drive softly for a bit before parking, or leave the car on for a minute or more before shut off.
