Should I worry about first batch cars?
Should I worry about getting one of the first MRs in the country? I'm wondering if I should wait a month or two (next allocation). I plan to keep the car for at least 100k miles so I want it to be perfect, or at least as perfect as possible without any early production defects.

I really don't think there is too much to worry about, every car has it's problems. I mean look at the 05 evo, which is supposed to be revised over the 03 and 04, and they have coolant hoes problems. And if you really do have continous problems, there is always the lemon law.
Can you link it? I couldn't find it. My Evo is a 2003 and I've had (knock on wood, hard core) absolutely no problems. I was told at the time of purchasing her that I was buying one of the first 100 brought to the US. That could have been my POS car salesman feeding me a line. Nonetheless, my '03 has proved to be an amazing machine. I take good care of her and she takes good care of me. Just break her in like you're supposed to.

I just put a deposit down on a 2006 EVO IX and I hope it holds up as good as my 1st model year 1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. After 15 years of ownership, I got 245K reliable milage out of the car (original motor, never rebuilt) and 12 second 1/4 mile timeslips!
Shouldn't have too much to worry about, because it's very similar to the VIII. Only difference engine-wise would be mivec. Everything else is basically the same (except for the revised gear ratios), with just minor touches.

The car is clean.
