Should I worry about first batch cars?

Should I worry about getting one of the first MRs in the country? I'm wondering if I should wait a month or two (next allocation). I plan to keep the car for at least 100k miles so I want it to be perfect, or at least as perfect as possible without any early production defects.

Oh man, now you got me scared. I've heard of some of the 03 ailments, but I was hoping that was because it was the very first year in the states and that since the IX wasn't that different from the VIII, I'd be ok.

I really don't think there is too much to worry about, every car has it's problems. I mean look at the 05 evo, which is supposed to be revised over the 03 and 04, and they have coolant hoes problems. And if you really do have continous problems, there is always the lemon law.

Yeah I think I read somewhere that my 05 EVO is going to catch fire because of that hose problem....

Can you link it? I couldn't find it. My Evo is a 2003 and I've had (knock on wood, hard core) absolutely no problems. I was told at the time of purchasing her that I was buying one of the first 100 brought to the US. That could have been my POS car salesman feeding me a line. Nonetheless, my '03 has proved to be an amazing machine. I take good care of her and she takes good care of me. Just break her in like you're supposed to.

I agree...I haven't had any problems with mine. Got mine in March 2003.

But you just said you haven't had a problem, in your previous post.

My problem is that I know exactly what day I bought her. Therein lies the problem, and it was only a joke. The car is clean.

You should have nothing to worry about....

I just put a deposit down on a 2006 EVO IX and I hope it holds up as good as my 1st model year 1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. After 15 years of ownership, I got 245K reliable milage out of the car (original motor, never rebuilt) and 12 second 1/4 mile timeslips!

Shouldn't have too much to worry about, because it's very similar to the VIII. Only difference engine-wise would be mivec. Everything else is basically the same (except for the revised gear ratios), with just minor touches.

Yeah, I got an early '03 and have had no problems whatsoever. Stock clutch even. It all depends on luck.
