Finally Found A Sales Target for EVO's
According to all the information I’ve read from various auto industry/journalist sites the X is not intended to be larger nor weigh more due to the liberal use of aluminum. Horsepower has been repeatedly listed in excess of 300. Now will this happen? Who knows but from the information that is out now these are the indications.
Cost might be an issue for the X. The MR IX bases at 36K. That’s not cheap by any stretch, and as you can see in sales numbers mid 30’s car with economy car + rally car styling does not equal $$ for Mitsubishi. Once you start pushing 40k most with that kind of money will not be looking for even the styling of X let alone the Mitsu name. Brands like BMW, Audi, and so forth come to mind.

i'm sure the X will be a great car but just don't get your hopes up for a super lightweight, 400hp ferrari eater, all for less than $32K...
What I'm looking for out of the X is similar performance to the IX and more contemporary styling of a sports car without excessive inflation in cost. Only time will tell if this will happen, but one can hope.
Not that many here would want it but if you took the mechanicals of an evo and wrapped it in a shell from Porsche, Audi or similar, keeping it small and light the demand would be huge.
The only real thing that keeps the Evo in a niche market is it's styling. For the true enthusiast that is as it should be. For 99% of the rest of the buying public it's not. Mitsubishi isn't Lotus, Ferrari or Lamborghini, they can not stick to a low volume enthusiast car. That is unless they are heavily in the Black which isn't the case.
Let the ongoing speculation continue....
