I'm all right, since no matter what mode you're in it will shift automatically for you if you don't push the little button.

in manual mode, it will only shift until slightly after redline if you do not manually upshift. think of it as saving your ***.

Not denying that, it's still automatic I understand why people like it, I said it's the best auto I've ever driven, but I like rowing through the gears and always will.

I sell VW's and all I can say about the DSG is that it is the best tranny hands down. The only draw back to the tranny is that it will only handle 274 ftlbs before it starts having troubles. I know that GIAC makes a reflash for the 2.0 but with a few upgrades, the tranny will go bye-bye. The car is also very safe with side curtain airbags. I love my EVO, but I will never allow my new born to be a passenger in the EVO. It is a rolling death-trap in the event of a t-bone collision.
Please know that I am not ******* on our EVO's, I am just stating the facts in regards to its safety.

I was surprised to find out that side airbags were not an option on the IX when they are on the STI and base level Hyundais.

Hum... I am becoming more and more interested in this car, I really dug the SMG in the BMW, so if you guys are saying that this DSG is much better, then I might have to go check it out. I was planning on the beamer being my next ride, but who knows, with a GTI and reflashed ECU, I would be golden... I think.

The SMG is the BMW is horrible, the DSG is a superior product at this point. Look for the MY 07 BMW SMG and it should be a great driving experince. Even BMW knows the MY 06 SMG is a loss.

Available for the TT as well. Probably useable on the 3.2 A3 then. Now that would be cool a little wagon with 400hp.

Hey I just talked to Jerad on the phone at HPA about the DSG tranny they already have two programs running. One to upgrade the wet clutches, and the other is the electronic side for launch cotrol and gear manipulation. One of the cars he mentioned had a torque figure of 485.

Well, I just took a test drive, and I am certainly impressed. The DSG system is far superior to the BMW, I really dug it. Now, what's on my mind is whether to get rid of the evo and get the gti, or stick with the evo and finish paying it off (1 year left). I really want to get into something newer, and into a lease, I have to say that I can't stick with a car longer than two or three years, I just get bored... not that I am bored with the evo, but I do want something new, and I really, really like the DSG, and the overall sportiness of the GTi. It was a little weak for me, but nothing a couple grand wouldn't do to help that situation, and maybe some suspension tweaks, and I would be happy. I would definitely have to get used to the fwd again, as I have come to love the awd sooo much... a little change is always good though, most of the time.

How does the DSG handle an fast take-off (launch)? I am doubtful they would have launch control on a US car for liability reasons.

You are right, as far as I know (I didn't try it) the launch control is only availible outside the US. I didn't really get a chance to get off of the line quick, but I will definitely get a chance to this weekend, since they are going to let me take one for the day on saturday... I will let you know then. I would imagine it couldn't be too bad though, honestly you can't go much higher than 3k lanuch with the fwd and turbo, so I am guessing if you mashed it quick enough, it might rev up to just about that anyways, but who knows.

I drove two Audi A3 2.0t one 6-speed and one DSG both are wonderful transmisions I would need more seat with the DSG before I would choose it.The A3 2.0t DSG that I drove would spin the tires when you took off.
