2008 Lancer vs Sentra vs Elantra vs Civic
2008 Lancer vs Sentra vs Elantra vs Civic
Hey guys,
Guess what, I just found another article about the new lancer and this time it's a comparison test between the new Lancer, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, and Nissan Sentra (they should've also thrown Mazda 3 in there). Basically the new Lancer took the 3rd place but the authors pretty much put it above it all when it came to performance/enthusiasm/aesthetics/sportiness, the things the car scored low was daily driving mostly because of the 18in wheels.
Also of note, check out the last page of the article with specs. There is something seriously not right with the first gear of the Lancers CVT transmission as the 0-30 time is the worst of the bunch but then the 0-60 time is the best of the bunch (this has been also reported by few of the evolutionm.net members, the first gear on CVT seems to be slow accelerating), also Nissan Sentra comes with a CVT but doesn't suffer from that problem, but then again, this is a second generation CVT for Nissan where Mitsubishi is a newbie.
And last but not least, the new Lancer seems to be very well aerodynamically/suspension designed, the lateral acceleration is the best of the bunch by a not so small margin so Mitsubishi did a great job on the exterior design.
Anyway, enough with my rumbling, read the article:

There is no first gear in a CVT. The problem with CVT, which Nissan owners are finding, is that it has a very hard time conveying even a moderate amount of torque from the engine to the wheels, which would explain the low start times. Its draw is efficiency, not performance. Any 'gear changes' are not real, but simulated to make it sound like a 5 or 6 gear trans. IMO, what's the point in having a new technology like CVT if you're just going to make it behave like the old technology it replaces?
Anyway, I just don't like it either way - the way the sound of a CVT doesn't match the engine RPMs and speed just gives me the *******.
