just got an email from my dealer...
that's the real deal. they want the older mature croud with higher incomes to buy it. No RS is comin. its a fact. sorry guys. These are starting prices. They will be over MSRP the first few months. The X looks to be a very limited production compared to previous models as well. So don't be expecting to get a new one at the end of 08.
I just called a dealership in VA that told me the MR is going to be around $37,000and available in late Feb. He was an Evo guy judging by the way he had lots of info. He was telling me that they are coming later than the GSR because they are still fine tuning the transmission. The GSRs will start in the $33,000 range and come at the end of Jan. Again, this is in Virginia, and one of the biggest Evo selling dealerships in the area. He is also taking pre-order deposits for $500.00.

just to have a very limited production? You are full of it.
yeah Mitsu is pricing themself right out of the market...
no way in hell would i pay $40K for a Mitsu anything...
i'd pay $36-37K for an MR but $40K...?
for that kind of money i can buy alot of cars... 335i, c350, etc...

do a search and you will find I posted the end of first quarter and 40,000 price tag for the evoX. I win the free beers you guys. Send them my way. should have believe me way back in june.
Eh... 40k?
Sorry, I'd consider wifing the GT-R then if worst comes to worst since that > the X as far as AWD + auto-manual type transmissions goes. The 3000GT as kick *** as it was (and still is) did NOT do well for Mitsu after 40k price hike. Doing the same for the Evo even with the SST & performance (which until I read some american reviews for the USDM model & final production specs) is questionable in comparison to the older models.
In the end they'll have to keep it down below 40k for the MR, anything over and they'll risk people fleeting to a similar priced competitor (i.e. STi ) or pay more for something else (Bimmer, GT-R).

Maybe after a few months they'll offer the GSR with the TC-SST. I don't think i'd be willing to pay upwards of $40k for an Evo. Hopefully the people they are hoping to attract the
brand will be.
brand will be.

if EvoX would be something like Evo6 TME then I would have no problem paying $40k. But the way X looks, and luxury car direction Mitsu is taking the Evo, I can't justify $40k.. If I want a luxury sports car, I will buy a 335i.
I'm aware that this new Evo X is intended to draw an older group of car enthusiasts, but it just feels a bit over the top. The paddle-shifters, the Chrysler-fam look, and even the price. I do agree with most of you that believe in actually driving the car before passing judgement, but all this information I've read/heard so far is really taking a dump on my perception of Mitsubishi. There was this sense of honesty with the previous Evo's rawness. Now it come across as an AWD Dodge Charger with a smarter computer. I hope driving the X changes my mind.
