A weight reduction would make a huge difference.

My sunfire was about $500/6months which is probably from every high school kid being able to afford a cavalier/sunfire.
You guys need to pay NY/NJ insurance rates and then you wouldnt care about 1300 a year. I am 27 with a clean record and i pay $1000/year for liability only on a 97 buick regal. My father registers my evo X and my ms6 and it cost an additional $300/year on his top of his policy.

i would love to see them reintroduce the 4G63, go back to the CT9A chassis, and forget the X ever happened, and forget this auto tranny nonsense... and you're all lucky with insurance, some of you pay $600 for 6 months... i pay that EVERY month... gotta pay to play if you wanna be 20 yrs old and own an evo in NY... and i have 1 total on my record (other guy ran a red light) 2 points on my record (1 speeder) and i get a discount for being a NYS EMT... and it still SUCKS !!!!

Weight reduction like everyone has said.
6 speed Traditional Manual.
Little more user friendly ECU that will not through a CEL when someone farts accross the State.
And for sake fix the rattles, it's getting old. (I fixed most of them with the purchase of some felt washers were the dash is attached to the body, I should not have to on a 40K car)

Things to improve/change:

Go back to the 4g63
DITCH the pull style clutch. Push style is how it should be done.
How about a boost gauge and an oil pressure gauge? Kinda important...
A more tuner friendly ecu. Injector scaling shouldn't have to estimated.
Weight reduction. Heavy cars are not fun to drive plain and simple. People want to buy sports car not a cruiser.

There should be 5-speed, 6-speed, and auto models. Each should have the mivec option.

Other than that it's a pretty well engineered car.

Flex Fuel

Would E85 compatability be considered as bonus? Not sure how expensive it is to mod the engine for this but it may be nice to have the option as some GM and Ford vehicles do.

How about a X MR-GT version, 3.0L straight 6 cylinder 6B11T engine 450ps 435 ft,lb torque!!!! LOL but seriously some more power or a serious weight reduction is needed and maybe get rid of the bugs I'd prefer a smooth ride over a frilly ride with a whole bugs any day.

I think they can loose weight and will. Subaru and Nissan both cut weight, and it seems with rising fuel regulations loosing weight will be a good option. I thought they linked gaining 300 lbs to moving the car up market? As for being a rally car I did not think Mitsu. did that any more, so maybe a bump in displacement will happen? I do not know. As far as direct injection goes I am against it. Ya, better mpg, but we will see less 500+hp monster Evo's (I am not saying it is not possible). Lets all pray that Mitsu. makes it long enough to see an XI.

From the research I have done the JDM STI EJ20 has better rods and pistions than the EJ25. Plus it has a twin scroll turbo. From what I understand even the stock Evo 8 turbo is actually an upgrade on a USDM STI.
