Part of me is not surprised to see Mitsu sitting near the bottom on this chart. Although I loved my Eclipse GSX with a passion it had its fair share of problems from cheap rattling interior to transmission/suspension issues. The Evo is probably Mitsubishi's best flagship car and even it comes with a large share of problems, which relate to many of the old issues of Mitsubishi cars.

The fact that Toyota is on the top of that list is a joke though. Maybe Toyota from the 80's/90's but not the Toyota of today.

I'll agree, I've owned 4 prior mitsu cars and Now on my 5th, 3 DSM one 3G eclipse and now the Evo but they all have what I'm looking for, now if I could own a supra or VR-4 I would be in heaven, but each car has always had different problems from tranny to paint. But hey thats what aftermarket is for right?!?!?

Upgrade and see how the car is then, never leave a mitsu stock asking for trouble then

My thoughts

I've also spent 10k on each car rather there with me or not but I still have the GSX which is pushing 98k now, my father passed it down and needless to say from stock to fully built, HUGE difference but once again the general public will NOT spend 33k on completely modding a car

Making these cars better with mods is definitely what aftermarket is for. I think I spent around $15k on my GSX just for maintenance and a few mods here and there (exhaust, gauges, down pipe, intake and the usual). I finally decided to give up on paying around $5k a year to maintain it and decided to switch to an Evo. Funny thing is I think it is costing me even more money to maintain the Evo haha!

I love it though and wouldn't trade the car for anything else! I will one day own a 1999 300gt VR-4!

Also, it's not my chart, it's JD Power and Associate's chart. Take it with a grain of salt. Everything has error. Mitsubishi hasn't exactly earned a reputation for reliability though. Quite the opposite actually (remember DSM's?????). This shouldn't be news to anyone here.

As far as Range Rover, brand loyalty has nothing to do with reliability. I now own my second Mitsu, not because it's reliable, but because it's what I like. Same goes for RR.
DSM is something completely different. you had the wrong people making the wrong decisions. It was the thinking you could merge Japanese and American engineering with little effort. What you got was an F*#$# cluster. Which kept going and going until the end of DSM. If it was me, I would bring back the brand and some of those cars and do it proper. Mitsubishi could start over. Currently Mitsubishi sells the least amount of cars in North America. Starting over at the bottom isnt hard. but the commitment has to be there to do it right.

i think that list is kind of "biased". all the cars I've owned are mitsubishis:
89 Lancer (As old as me, my DD to college back then, still survives until today but we sold it. 4th owner is satisfied with it though)
08 Eclipse
10 Evo

the paint issues are being documented by other car manufacturers as well... water based paints to "save" the planet. Its definately not making our investments safe espicially when we need to wrap our cars in plastic to save it.

At least the Evo doesn't suffer from crankwalk like my Eclipse did

Everyone talks about crankwalk, but I never had an issue with my DSM as well as the many other friends I know who owned a 2g. I guess it is just the luck of the draw.

I never had CW with my 1998 Eclipse GST and I went through quite a few modding stages on it from T25 to FPT28 to FP Green w/HKS 264 cams. Car was actually pretty reliable considering the ghetto pocket logger and SAFC tuning.

My wife has owned two new Mitsubishi's (2004 Ralliart and 2007 Outlander XLS) and have had zero problems with either. The 2002 Mazda Protege 5 we had was a complete POS in comparison with faulty ASC valves, transmission synchro issues, rust bubbles on the hatch, major paint chippage on the hood and bumper, all within three years ownership. IMO Mitsubishi cars can stand toe to toe or better with the Nissan's, Subaru's, Mazda's of the world who build average cars at best.

Mitsubishi sucks ***. the only thing they make worth owning is the EVO. everything else is garbage, and honestly would not be missed by anyone.

I guess you have never heard of the 3000GT VR4 or Galant VR4, which were both manufactured in Japan. Two great cars that were ahead of their time, just check any of their VIN numbers and it clearly states they were manufactured in Japan.

DSM stands for Diamond Star Motors - a joint effort between Mitsubishi and Chrysler's Eagle and Plymouth divisions. This partnership is responsible for producing such cars as the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser, so when you refer to the new cars mentioned "sucking ***" they aren't DSM's.
