Confirmed by Mitsubishi high offical: Lancer Evolution is no more
Why not? With the electric wheel-engines they produced in collaboration with Hydro-Québec here, think about having 4 seperate engines powering your evo. Sports cars will exist as long as there is demand for it. The only thing is that they way they acheive "sportcar-ism" will be through different means.
I'm thinking about VCR too. Ultra-efficient 2 stroke engines (read cleaner than actual 4 strokes), or 4 stroke turbocharged-engines (like a 1.5L producing 220hp and 310tq. Yes 310 ft-lbs!).

I say Mitsubishi, please develop a VCR Evo engine!!!

Call me what you want, but I do believe a little bit, that their is some sort of agreement going on between oil companies and car makers. Does everyone seriously believe they cant make a combustible engine to get 50+ mpgs? Am I the only one?
I mean, look over the past 10 years. mpgs went from average 20 to 30-40 now. They can make the cars get better gas mileage, I think. Somewhere the oil companies step in and cry, cause that will mean less money for them.
Just a theory I have had.
P.S. If my evo 9 could get 35mpgs with the 4g63, id have no complaints. I really dont have any complaints for cars getting better gas mileage. I just hate once they start talking about electrics. I love the engine, I wanna hear it start up, I wanna hear it roar.
Something I learned in School. Has anyone else ever heard people talk, that their hybrid gets soo much better gas mileage?? To classify as a hybrid, means nothing for gas mileage. Its just creates less emissions and is a more "greener" car. I was at a Chevy dealership once with a friend. There was a salesman tryin to sell an Escalade Hybrid. You should have heard this guy preach to his customers on how the hybrid was gonna get so much better mpgs. lol

If all they (Road & Track, Motor Trend, et. al) have is concept photos at this point in time, then it definetly will not be on the assembly line and produced for the 2012 model year, as that is only few months away. IMHO, even 2013 model year is a very agressive schedule considering all of that new technology and a entirely new platform, engine, hybrid, etc. Do you remember the time lag between the first Concept X, followed by the Prototype X. That was 3 plus years and they were cars you could reach out and touch. A new hybrid Evo is going to be expensive to get set up for production. In theory, each Evo X that is built gets cheaper. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Evo X around until the end of 2013.

What Mitsu is really focusing on is having that Hybrid Outlander sport ready for 2013... I assume a Hybrid Lancer should come around the same year since they're now mostly based on the same platform... which means, 6 or some more months later, we get a Hybrid Evo... which puts it for a 2014 model release date...
Here's the info on the new Outlander Sport Hybrid for 2013:
