I could care less about the body... the evo has never been about looks... it has always been about the chassis, suspension, and drivetrain.

I think a hybrid awd sport platform is completely doable, but they need to do it the correct way. Electric motors generate flat torque curves... look at the tesla... despite being heavy as can be and only having a single speed trans (cause the 2 speed kept failing) it still impressed the guys at topgear, until it broke and the backup broke.

Big enough motors powering each wheel under the direction of H-SAWC (my own designation for Hybrid Super All Wheel Control) combined with a highly efficient turbo diesel or direct injection turbo petrol used only for keeping the electric storage system fully charged.. which of course needs to be a light weight storage system....... no reason it can't be done... may not be affordable to do yet though.

They wanna go green, huh? They have technology laying at their disposal but MMC can't seen to put it together: GDI since the 90's(we all seen what Audi has done with turbo and direct injection), actual combine the two version of MIVEC(variable cam timing on both cams and at least a variable cam profile on the intake side).
Seems like the left hand don't know what the right hand is doing...

People need to stop fooling themselves into thinking that they can seriously mod a hybrid. Several issues come to mind when I hear people toy with the idea of wrenching away at a hybrid Evo in their garage.. for one, the amount of juice that flows through the hybrid system would only require a FRACTION of a second to kill you! Put your hands in the wrong spot, & you wont even feel a tickle before you're dead. After a few tools show up on your nightly news for getting killed modifying their hybrid, the next thing you know you have politicians pushing for legislation to make modding your hybrid illegal (or every car if they could make it happen)! Secondly, to crack the computer (if possible) that controls the hybrid components would take a world-class geek. Thirdly, this somewhat explanes what I mean with issue #2, there is an insane amount of computers/micro processors that monitor & control everything on a hybrid vehicle. For example, if you were to count up every computer & micro processor on a Camry Hybrid, there are OVER 400 individual components!!! Start tuning or messing with 1 of them, the other 399 are going WTF is going on? So to get the software down to where you have all of them happy....good luck. Fourth, I don't know if any aftermarket company could afford to manufacture hybrid components & sell enough to make any money or even pay for the machinery required to tool those parts (if they could even buy the neccesary machinery). I'm not trying to be totally against the idea, but lets be real here guys. It's not like the challenge is how to manufacture new components for a brand new IC engine that just came out. It took awhile for companies to start manufacturing parts for the 4B11, but thats a "simple" IC engine. The software side of it, & TC-SST transmission presented greater challenges & took longer to master, & so far has only been accomplished by few.

So is it IMPOSSIBLE to tune a hybrid? IDK. I've yet to see a tuned Prius! ..& I know that there are Toyota nuts out there that probably tried, but they either failed & bailed, or they're swapping Prius jokes right now with Ahmed the Dead Terrorist!

yea, the hybrids werent invented to be modded for more power, they were invented for ECONOMY, if you try to mod the hybrid evo, that would kind of defeat the purpose wouldn't it, i wouldn't even consider this a true evo if this actually goes into production, would you consider a mustang cobra with a 2.0 liter engine/electric motor a TRUE cobra?, NO, and I think I'll be holding onto my evo for a very long time seeing as how it doesnt look good for the future of evos, so in 10 or 15 years they should shoot up, just as the supra has when toyota stopped production in 98, 31,XXX to a 50,000+ evo?!!! who knew!

I would love a car that balanced performance and economy. The truth is they have the technology. The problem is that all these cars keep gaining as much weight as the average American that drives them. Put the average engine out of today's lancer or civic in a corolla or civic from the early 80's and you would have a pretty quick car because they were so light. The other problem is that if you go hybrid you just won't have that angry car sound. That would be a big problem.

WE DON'T WANT A HYBRID WE WANT AN EVO 11 THAT PULLS FROM IT'S ROOTS! MITSUBISHI LOOK AT HOW NISSAN MADE THE 370Z SMALLER AND LIGHTER WITH MORE POWER, THAT'S WHAT WE WANT!!!!! Keep the imeiv or whatever for those that want that and keep the evo for those that love to drive. Look at nissan they have a gtr and a leaf and a 370z they didn't just take their main car and mash it into one electric theme. Don't get me wrong I'm glad their not killing it but you might as well.

Some of the European diesels perform as well as gas motors, and handle turbos better. I'd go for an Evolution XI diesel, with 350 ft/lb and 300 hp. Some Dodge pickup trucks with the Cummins engine can out-drag Corvettes. And "hybrid" doesn't necessarily mean "lame." It depends on how they do it.

That said, one of the things we all love about Evos is their rawness. Even Evo X looks like a Lancer to most people. But we know that it has an aluminum front clip and roof. And Bilstein shocks/struts. And Eibach springs. And BBS wheels. And 291 hp out of a displacement that is equivalent to a big Coke bottle. Not to mention the best AWD system on the planet. I hope that MMC takes the bad publicity to heart and doesn't goof up a formula that sells. Ford got the message with the S197 Mustang and they sell Mustangs by the bushel-basket full as a result.

Evo XI, more like Evo IX or X.

Have you heard? Those 5.0's are having engine trouble and instead of admitting a problem, Ford has started with issuing TSBs that simply attack anyone who has modified the car.

They are popping motors left and right with barely any mods. 100% stock cars driven by old guys are developing ticking problems. Exhaust and tune cars are not exactly being pushed that hard. This is unacceptable.

If I were you, I'd hold off on buying one. Coming from an ex Mustang lover, this is sad news because I like Ford more than GM or Chrysler.

I think our Evo motors would hold more horsepower for longer before chucking a rod. Each Mustang Forum not censored by vendors has threads already into 20 pages of failures.

Oh, and GO DIESEL! I'm about ready to buy a Jetta TDI to replace my Escape. Can't wait to mod it to around 300ft/lbs and still get 55-60mpg. Those things are incredible.

I traded a 5.0 Mustang I'd owned for a year to GET my MR!

I liked the Mustang, but I only drove it 7000 miles in a year, it wasn't as much fun. I've put 700 miles on the Evo in two weeks. It goes to show you that the Evo is more fun for me. I didn't have ticking problems or problems with the MT82, other than missing the 4-5 shift almost every time.
