Is this the 'new' Evo XI diesel motor?
all the rally evos run out steam around 6k rpm today...
there is a big thing you guys seems to me doesn't understand... and that is a transmission.
You can have a low rpm engine with high TQ and be just as fast as a high rpm engine with low tq. All about the transmission and power delivery.
Start looking out of the box, its time. 2012 almost

I've always found it odd the amount of fear when it comes to change. Considering the cars name includes the word evolution. I am personally excited to see what the XI brings.
But the Evo died when they stopped putting 4g63's in em! And don't get me started on that automatic transmission.

how is that so?

from the very early days the X is run just as fast and many times faster then the older evos, today even more evidence the X is a better overall race car, dirt - tarmac.
Only one thing is lacking yet is a drag race. But since the evo never been a drag race car neither was designed for it, who cares? The 4b11T puts out just as much peak hp for racing (not drag) but with a much better response and power band. Ergo it is a better engine.
By the way, anyone who bought an evo drag race in mind , are completely lost in the drag racing world. The Evo is just not a drag car. its like eating a supp with a fork , you can do it but why? LOL
your personal opinion is over whelmed with pure facts, and they are show clearly, Evo is just doing its own evolution, just like before did.
So no EVo is not dead not even close...

Drag racing. LOL.

First of all, why did you not "embrace" the 4B11T? Seems to me that you feared the change. Also, on this note, the Evo has been primarily a rally based car to which the X does just fine. The Evo was really not designed for 1320 feet, but rather to eat up dirt roads on rally stages. The car does pretty well as a road racer too. The 4B11T seems to excel in these conditions.
Second, I fail to see how you can embrace a diesel hybrid which is so far removed from your beloved 4G63. The 4B11T is much closer in design to the engine that you love. And, regarding the MR transmission, you again contradict yourself. Clutchless shifting has been around for quite some time now, especially in racing. Go check the last time that F1 used manual/clutch type transmissions. Same goes for rally racing and road racing. Why fear the change and not embrace it?
The bottom line is that Mitsubishi has chosen to go a different direction from past Evos. They have jumped on the environmental bandwagon like Honda. Honda is dying a slow death in spirit. They have so far away from the vision of Sochiro Honda, it is really a different company. Mitsubishi sadly, seems to want to follow. They have a halo car in the Evo and a cadre of loyal buyers, yet they want to spurn that. 10 years from now, we will wall look back and fondly muse about the good old days.
oh news . VW is announced the new line of car which is diesel and electric hybrid. Same time they will debut in 2013 WRC....
Oh must be everyone going nuts around the world ... LOL
By the way did you guys saw the Citroen hybrid WRC car?

The new 4N1 engines seem like a huge W in my book:
Same awesome 4B11T characteristics; aluminum block/head, 4 valves per cylinder, CVVT-style MIVEC,
And the added perks of a Diesel engine, with variable vane turbos.
So long as open source tuning of the ECU is still capable, who can possibly complain about:
*40mpg
*Gobs of low end torque
*Variable Geometry for top end HP
If this turns out the be 'Truth', Mitsu has a customer for life from me!

<---Take a look at what I drive. Sorry I forgot to add a lol
Maybe my reading comprehension isn't up to par today, but I liked VIII but I love my X. I was being sarcastic and parroting stuff that I've read posted through out the years about the current gen Evo. I'm excited about the new Evo and hope they do well with it.

This was back in 08. I wonder if the new Evo Diesel is going to be similar.
