Is this the 'new' Evo XI diesel motor?
maybe nobody knows anything about audi and their TDI F1 car that is fast as hell... i dont understand why everyone doesn't like this diesel idea its been proven that diesel in racing works very well
You mean Adui LMP1 Car, they aren't in F1, but the TDI in the LMP1 are fast and is very competitive, same with the WTCC SEAT diesel car, issue with releasing a diesel in the US is that the market is small if it in a passenger car.
And, as Kurz said, Audi used a TDi diesel in LeMans/ALMS. Audi is not in F1. F1 uses a 2.4 liter V8. They will go with a 1.6 liter V6 turbo in 2014. F1 uses gasoline, not diesel. BTW, both Audi and Peugeot will be using diesel/hybrids in 2012 for LeMans and the World Endurance Championship.
Diesels can make good power as used in racing. With an electric motor, they can produce a lot of torque and of course, efficiency will be better than gas. However, the thrill of a gas engine revving and making stupid power will be gone forever.
from the very early days the X is run just as fast and many times faster then the older evos, today even more evidence the X is a better overall race car, dirt - tarmac.
Wow, good find xi. Given the specs on the engine, it would certainly stand to reason that this would be the next Evo engine. They listed the torque at 310 ft.lbs. I didn't catch the hp, which Mitsubishi might be wanting to be kept secret. 40 mpg is nice though. With an electric motor, it should probably make similar power to the current Evo X engine. Still, it is awfully hard to say diesel and Evo in the same sentence.
Found this info on Wikipedia about the 4N1 clean diesels that Mitsubishi will be using to meet emission standards in Europe, the US and Japan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_4N1_engine

As far as rally goes I cannot comment since I do not follow it very closely even though I find it extremely entertaining to watch but as far as auto x and road racing I completely disagree. Maybe stock to stock the X's drivers aids help push it a little in front, but a modified 8-9 will always be faster based on weight. Sure you can drop the weight but you can do the same with a 8 or a 9 and the X will always weigh 3-400 LBS more. If the X is better then why are teams like Sierra Sierra, or HKS/Cyber Evo using a X as a platform?
The X does seem to be a very good platform for rallying. And, it is more refinded than the IX. Sadly, the X, like many other cars, is part of the ever growing platform sizes that permeates the car industry. Bigger, heavier and more luxurious is the mantra. Raw, small and lightweight platforms seem to be anathema to everyone, even Lotus.

^ Lightweight used to be almost a religion at Lotus, especially during the days of Colin Chapman. Now, with Danny Bahar, future Lotuses with get bigger and heavier. Ironically, I just read on Autoblog that Chrysler is looking to downsize the Challenger because the current car is too big in comparison to the Mustang and Camaro. So, expect a smaller, lighter Challenger, still with muscle, to battle its competition. I just cannot understand for the life of me why Mitsubishi wants to keep making the Lancer bigger and heavier. It was quite a jump in size and weight from the IX to X platform. Now the XI will have more girth and avoirdupois.
Wow.. that looks pretty sweet.. + AWD. Its gonno give Hyundai Genesis, Toyota GT86 and Subaru FRZ (or whatever) a run for their money, given the fact that this retails at a reasonable price.
Ohh Please take off those doors and throw them down a cliff and shoot a RPG at em while in mid flight.

Wrong
The combination of electric and diesel means extremely good low end torque and acceleration and depending on how they built it, it has the potential to be a better performer than the EVOs past.
I hate when people just pull crap out of their ***.
As for someone saying a 50k price tag, that's probably not far from the truth.

Dont even get me started on whats going to happen when people start modding this thing and try to make HP with it but end up with 1000 foot pounds of torque and 400 HP, you will end needing an unobtanium drive train to keep the thing in one piece.
And last but not least not having a Manual is lame as S@#$ for a hardcore sports car that the Evo is supposed to be.
