2014 Lancer Evolution
Ok.. I'm kind of sick of hearing this now.. Let's think about this.
Everybody wants some kind of "facelift" or change for the X since it has been out. That's fine.. But then we point to Subaru. They changed and updated the look of the STI since 2008.. why can't Mitsu do the same?
Well first of all, Subaru HAD to update the front fascia.. The 2008s looked horrible and they were competing with the X. They needed to freshen it up a little bit. Now I like the Suby. It looks very aggressive and nice.
Mitsu did upgrade stuff though. There was a problem with the 2008s diff pins.. That was upgraded and fixed. There was a problem with the 2008s timing chain.. Mitsu upgraded that too. One of the biggest complaints is the interior of Evos- "They aren't what you would expect in a 30k car..". That is true, we all know it, but Mitsu made full leather packages available for both the GSR and MR. They added plush door panels, too. One of the biggest eyesores to me was the short standard wing on the GSRs. They made the tall spoiler standard on all GSRs.. The LED center screen was updated to a full color screen. Now they added a touchscreen. Alot of people have been complaining about how cheap it looks, but there is only ONE freaking picture from an IPHONE! It prolly looks much better in person, as a member on here already confirmed.
Then people complain about the 5-speed.. "Why no 6-speed?!?".. Well as we saw with the VIII/IXs the 6-speed was a much weaker tranny. Not terrible, but not great. Sure it would be nice to have that extra gear to save a little gas and quiet down highway drone, but I think everyone would agree that we would rather have a stronger tranny.
I will say that Mitsu kind screwed up on the plastic CMC, fuel relays, and the AYC pump corrosion thing.. Wish they would create some kind of shield for the pump to prevent corrosion.. And the X really needed a metal, stronger CMC.
But all in all, the X is a great platform. We have had very little issues with the engine, tranny, etc.. (All the expensive stuff), and the car is very reliable.
And if we think about the Subaru, who everyone here apparently loves here, They have been using the same engine from 2008 that has serious known issues. Stock cars can pop due to ringland issues. They have done NOTHING to resolve this for their customers. Would you rather have a new front bumper for your X or have to worry about the engine blowing? Mitsu has made smart improvements for the reliability and performance of the X. The car still looks great. We have nothing to complain about when you really think about it compared to what some STI owners have to deal with.
Sorry for the long rant.. I just think that some people just like to complain about dumb ****, when we actually have it pretty good.
That said, I am anxious to see what Mitsu will come out with for the XI.

I'm with you ^^^ Even if they continue the X into 2015 I'll be more than happy. I want a new one and since I'm taking my time to buy (long story short - buying a house first) I don't want the X to be over yet.

In comparison, X was so good already just like the base Lancer unless some people want to go for some extreme personal taste.
Well, Mitsubishi certainly gets some mileage out of their platforms, don't they? The car has been around for 8 years with 2014 being the 7th year of the same, exact platform. I cannot think of a car besides the Volkswagen Beetle that has gone so long without any styling changes or drivetrain improvements. I know money is tight at Mitsubishi and the Evo is considered a second rate stepchild and all, but just the same, it would have been nice for them to throw us a bone and throw in a little bonus somewhere, whether it be styling, suspension, engine or even wheels.
All the scuttlebutt for the last year including the media has been saying that the 2013 X would be the absolute final version of the car and that late in 2014, the XI would come out. I wonder if Mitsubishi is having second thoughts about this or is changing its game plan? Maybe they have seen the light and have seen that customers still want cars like the Evo X, albeit in an updated platform of the next Lancer. I have only owned my 2011 GSR which I bought brand new for 1 year and 5 months, so considering the fact they are talking about 2014's, my car sounds kind of old. LOL
