Frankly this is embarrassing that a major car company is not at the Auto Show again this year. What is up with Mitsubishi, are they slowing leaving the American market?

This shouldn't be very surprising.
Mitsubishi has been falling off a steep cliff ever since 1989

They have to redesign all their cars and come out with all new cars just like Hyundai. They have one more chance at doing this if not, goodbye Mitsubishi forever.

My guess is they couldn't spare the cash due to the debt maturities of 2013-15.

NAIAS is the most expensive autoshow for a manufacturer to display their cars. You not only have to pay the convention center for the floor space, but you also have to pay for the set, the transport of cars, the models and car info experts that answer questions. Autoshows are quite expensive and given Mitsu's financial situation, they unfortunately don't have the money to exhibit at NAIAS.

Hyundai stepped there game up, really impressed with the cars.. if only Mitsubishi listened to what the people actually wanted they might make more sales?

That's a bummer.... what am I going to do with the 14 days I'll be working there?

But yes, NAIAS is considered the largest Auto Show in the country in terms of media exposure. So it comes at a cost. Mitsu was in L.A. back in Nov/Dec.., which is another "major" show. However, L.A. is more of an electric vehicle market, so it makes sense for them to go to that one v.s. Detroit if they have to pick and choose.

I believe that they were at the Chicago Auto Show last year, so maybe they will make it to that one, at least.

Basically, there is nothing new for them to show. It is not worth for them to spend the money to show the old cars.
May be they can show the concept EVO XI, Esclipe, and the new Outlander next year.

sorely it isn't in the NAIAS. in their website, it is going to be in the chicago autoshow. what is the use of coming to NAIAS if it is run by the detroit area dealer association and the mitsu dealer is very few to be even considered.
