Mitsubishi's Future Plans
Mitsubishi's Future Plans
There's a lot of non-sense in this section of the forms. A lot of is because some auto mag or blog heard a rumor and that some how turned in to a fact. Because I work for a dealership, we get regular training from Mitsubishi itself. One of the topics at every one of these trainings is future products. Here are things that I know directly from Mr. Yokozawa, my regional sales rep, my general manager who has a direct line to a lead product designer, and our national trainer.
2014 Model year
This will be the last model year for the 9g Lancer. We have already started to order 2014 Evo's. There will not be any significant changes.
The Mirage has already been announced. It will be a 3 cylinder eco box that gets between 40-50MPG, non-hybrid.
Any rumors about an Evo trim level for the Mirage are still just that, rumors.
2014 calendar year
The Outlander will be redesigned. The touring package will be offered in both SE and GT trim levels. It will be able to get up t 31MPG highway without eco mode on.
2015 Model year
The Lancer will get a redesign. This is where you're going to see it get an optional 6.1'' touch screen, or a 7'' Nav screen.
The Outlander will get a plug in hybrid version. This vehicle is supposed to operate like a Chevy Volt, where its 100% electric until its dead, then switches to gas.
No confirmed time line
Mitsubishi's chairman has officially stated they are interested in returning to rally.
Evo XI will be a hybrid! This was confirmed to me by Mr. Yokozawa himself when he visited my store late last year. However, he would not confirm if it would be gas or diesel.
There is also no confirmed time frame on when this will appear. It may debut in the 2015 model year with the new Lancer. It may be like the 2007-2008 redesigned where the 9g lancer was sold with out an Evo trim in 2007. Who knows?
The Montaro will be making a return to the US. Right now it's still being sold as the Pajero through out other parts of the world. There may also be a truck version of the Pajero, currently known as the L200.
Finally, there are plans in the work for the return of the Galant. This will involve a partnership with Nissan.

Great info. Thank you. Can you please expand a little more on the 2014 Evo X and what "there will not be any significant changes" means? Since you're able to order the 2014 I would guess you would be able to tell us what standard and options have changed (if any)?
Thanks man!
Thanks man!
If that is true about the XI being a hybrid of some sort, I don't really see it coming until the 2016 model year. Prolly release the Lancer and then the Evo the following year.
I'm glad to see that Mitsu seems invested into the next few years though. Hopefully the Galant will bring something to the table.. Mitsu needs to follow Hyundais example of how to go from a lower teir auto maker to one that is atleast looked at as pretty good..

No, I don't have any additional information. For example the 2011 9g Lancer family had a "carbon fiber" trim all the way around the dash and front doors. In 2012 the 9g lancer family has a gloss black trim instead. The 2012 and 13's also have leather door panels. Minor changes like this generally aren't announced to sales people because they don't really impact the way the car is sold.

Where did you hear this?
There's and Limited Edition (LE) Outlander Sport that just came out. But I haven't heard anything about a special edition 2014 anything... unless you're referring to the SE lancer, which was a new trim for 2012.

I'm just wondering why the dealers here in So Cal says they can't actually order them yet.
We order cars on a monthly basis. Our allotment is generally based on our sales (by vehicle). Its not 100% based on that, but its a guide line, especially in a limited production vehicle like the Evo. If a dealer only sells 6 or 7 of them a year, they aren't going to get many more of them than that period. But say a dealer sell a ton of Outlander Sports, they can generally order more than their allotment if they ask.
I'm not sure why they're telling you they can't order 14's yet, unless maybe that was 2 months ago. We just started ordering them earlier this month.

Sam Smash @ Mitsubishi Super Stores of Southern California told me this just a week ago. When I saw Tristan's thread I immediately called him up to put a deposit but he told me they can't order yet. I followed up last week and he still said he can't order them yet.
So in terms of options and packages, you are not sure what you're gonna get right? Mitsubishi is just gonna give you a random assortment of EVOs? That is what I am confused about.

Yeah, I've heard some not so great things about that store, TBH. So I don't know what to tell you, other than our store is done ordering 13s at this point.
