Mitsubishi has partnered with Renault-Nissan for small car and sedan development. Mitsubishi will develop sedans based on the Maxima platform while they will co-develop a new small car. This makes a lot of sense as Mitsubishi is good at making small cars and bad at making big cars and Nissan is the exact opposite as the Sentra and Versa are two of the worst cars you can buy.

I agree. I'm hoping they are just getting the platform instead of trying to sell rebadged Maximas.

They'll most likely keep the Galant name since it is their oldest nameplate. They stuck it on that Lancer model in Japan just so they can keep it going since it has been around since 1969.

Oh yeah. How could I forget about that one.

I was hoping they would call the new Mirage a Colt, but here's hoping the next Lancer spawns a two door hatch called Colt.

When I sold Mitsus all I heard was how some people thought the then new 2002 Montero was ugly. Then when it went away so many current SUVs seemed to bite off its style I just came to the conclusion that it was just ahead of its time and had the unfortunate stigma of being a Mitsubishi.

To me, that truck looks like a more furturistic Maibatsu Monstrosity...errr Mitsubishi Montero so it doesn't bother me at all. It will get cleaned up some for production but it seems "natural" to me compared to "off" looking vehicles like the QX56 and LX570 out now.

Colt nameplate has a pause that started in 2011.
Whilst we're mentioning it, I am surprised that Mitsubishi hasn't attempted on entering hothatch market in 2004 in US when they released European built Colt. 1.5l turbo with 110kw(122-130kw for JDM), 5sp manual would probably catch somebody's eye(not to mention that it had stroking options, brabus support and what not) and regular non-turbo 1.5l with around 75-85kw and supposedly 34-37mpg combined.

Because hot hatches just don't sell here. We are probably going to get the sedan version of the Mirage before we get a 3-door hatch of anything. 3-door sedan like a Lancer coupe? Maybe, but still doubtful. They are only going to hit the core high volume markets until they get to at least 150K in sales, I think - maybe 250K before we see something like an Eclipse again.
