If you haven't seen the leather package on the '04 Evo, you're missing a thing of beauty -- it was REALLY nicely done and really classes up the inside of the car.

It would be cool if the seats look different, maybe more like the black and red seats that the rest of the world has. There are alot more STIs around here because people like the look of the interior and I think it has kind of placebo effect on they're perception of the build quality.
In the end though, I think alot of people around here also believe you always get what you pay for and just buy what is more expensive. I hope Mitsu doesn't catch on to it but I've always thought the Evo would be more successful here if it was 10 grand more. It would definently appeal more to the Road&Track crowd. Anyways, back to topic, I would rather install my own stereo but as long as I can take it off and it doesn't boost the price too much I don't mind how "sh!tted up" (my new word
) they make it.

The fact that the MR comes with a decent stereo and air conditioning and rear wiper and even dual visor vanity mirrors (ahem!) implies that this car is not nearly as track-focused. So, IMO, leather should be offered as it seems to be consistent with the other appointments on the car and, unlike the sunroof, there's no technical reason why it couldn't be implemented on the MR.

Obiviously for racing, the cloth makes a better choice - but Mitsu listened to the people who complained that the interior was lacking. I think the leather looks 1000% better, and now makes the STI interior look bad.

The MR is not a luxury version of the VIII. The ride is better due top a better high speed damping and lower stiction of the bilsteins. It show also just be faster than the last version and handle better. The MR is still focused on performance.

I meant that from Mistu's stand point and they're competition with the Subie, alot of reviews see the Subie to be easier to live with everyday. And STI's on the streets are probably 5:1 around here, or maybe the Evo drivers don't drive?
It sounds like the improved ride quality in the MR, the 6 speed, as well as supposedly less turbo lag in all of the 05's will probably take some potential subie owners, so why not put leather as an option and potentially take away a few of those who really like the suede-like touches of the STI interior. I mean, if the STI owners in my area did much performance research, cared too much about modding and/or autoX, and looked at comparisons, how could it outsell the evo so much? What they see and feel when they get inside must really make a difference and performance takes somewhat of a compromise. Or maybe it's just the price tag they like?
Either way, I don't want leather, and yeah, they didn't put an aluminum roof on there so people can hall their kids around or pick up the womens.

i do not agree at all. the absolute most expensive cars, or race worthy road cars all have leather. It should be standard period. CAse in point, the dodge viper, all lambo, all ferrari except the 360 cs, all porsches, and even the mighty Mclaren F1 has it as standard. Leather is not just there for you to look pretty in, it actually makes the car more valuable. There are companies that make leather soft, yet firm. These are the seats to be in the evo. Now, I have never sat in an evo with the leather so I cannot say how it is but I can say that leather should and must be standard.
Leather Seats
I kind of agree with Moviebumm
Leather seats are nice BUT, I think the main seating surface's should be suede or a material like Kevlar that actually grips you, the Bolsters should be smooth leather to allow easier entrance and exit from the car, after all though they are race seats and grip is the key word here. if the seating surfaces were made from kevlar then they would hold up pretty well to abrasion.

Nothing is confirmed until dealers are allowed into the ordering system for their allocations (probably now, or very, very soon), but I'm expecting the 140W in the MR.
I'm probably going to upgrade it to the 315W Infinity that was optional in the '04. Yes, I could go aftermarket, but the MR is going to attract enough attention, and no one's going to bust a window apart for the Mitsubishi stereo. The 200W Infinity in my Eclipse is a pretty decent setup, so I expect the 315W w/ sub to be MORE than adequate for the MR.
Besides, 3 years from now I'll have a daily driver and I'll be stripping all that stuff out of the MR.

"Race cars" have one mission in life: go fast in controlled environments. Leather is not such a great idea, as many fabrics offer more grippiness and you don't really care about how it looks or how well it wears as long as it's light, fire-retardant, and keeps your tush in the seat.
In contrast, "sports cars" are what normal, everyday people buy to drive in their normal, everyday lives and also to have fun in (and maybe track a bit here and there), and leather seating absolutely should be considered as an option. In fact, as was pointed out, the majority of the better sports cars (e.g., Porsches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, McLarens, etc.) come with leather seating standard. Not only does it provide an adequate seating surface for 99.9% of the uses of a "sports car," it lasts longer and enhances the value of the car over the long run.
The consumer Evo as sold at the dealership is a "sports car." If you want to turn it into a "race car" by putting in a proper rollcage, 5-point harness, stripping out all carpeting and sound deadening, taping/capping the headlights, etc., that's up to you, but that's not what Mitsubishi is selling off the showroom floor (not even the RS is a true "race car," but it's closer).

i expect the absolute fastest, safest and most luxurious car i can find that is not for the top 1 percent of the population i.e. ferrari. Evo's might be considered race cars but they are not. They are road cars. If they sold a version like is described above with all sound deadinning out, a real roll cage, most buttons, no stereo or a/c, then leather would sound kind of rediculous, but for the real world, this evolution trim level is not available. Leather should be standard with the cloth as a no cost option. I have made my point.

I have an Alpine head unit in my current car that I'd like to use with the factory speakers, amp & sub from the 315W setup, but as far as I'm aware, getting that system in the MR isn't an option.

The only Evo seat option I want is hook Velcro upholstery. I'll but fuzzy pants.
Astronaut pants
I would say try and get a hold of some of those NASA Astronaut pants they use where they can attach accessory pockets all over their legs, whilst in space, keep their tools from floating away.
