Will the new 6-speed help in the 1/4 mile?

NEvermind I do stand corrected, for some reason I was under the impression I saw that it had a lower first gear, but it instead changes the gearing throughout the 6-speed and adds a taller 6th gear....
So as far as 1/4 mile it will still launch pretty much the same and you should finish the 1/4 in the bottom of 5th... my guess is you will ahve to shift into 5th due to the fact that the 6-speeds 4th is lower then the 5-speeds...

well if thats the case then the diffs are geared different... let me look back at the MR's gearing
even the final drive is higher then the 5-speeds...
Has anyone ran a 1/4 mile in the 6-speeds yet, that would prob answer all of our questions

Yep... if you are making enough HP you will definitely need 5th. Some of the stronger Evo's already do.... FWIW, 4th gear is only good for ~120mph if I remember correctly.

The 6-Speed's 6th is taller (numerically lower) than the current 5-Speed's 5th, and the 6-Speed's 5th is shorter (numerically higher) than the current 5-Speed's 5th. Both trannies 4th gears are nearly identical. So yes, a higher top speed is possible with the 6-Speed and better acceleration due to closer gears on the top end will help as well.
