Most people also get a suspension setup "JIC, TEIN, HKS" that will out perform the stock setup nomatter how you look at it. The six speed would be nice but i hear that the gear ratios are shorter which means more shifting and no going faster which sucks! The front LSD is very nice!!! and the ACD is also very nice! THose are the only 2 options i would even think about getting the car for. Problem is you can get a Quiafe LSD that has a warranty agianst racing and still be saving maybe 4K-5K off a MR. The ACD can be converted but more of a hassle then anything. So like i said i guess the only thing i would like the MR for is the ACD. Just my 0.02

I think there's a lot more stock Evolutions than you give credit for. The modders make the most noise, but the majority of people are basically leaving the car alone, as it (in any of the 3 incarnations) is very good. For the people who don't want to spend large sums of money on a 2nd set of wheels, an aftermarket suspension setup, a quaife LSD, etc; they probably get their money's worth. The same is true of people who value the warranty, though I have a hard time valuing that at more than $10 given Mitsu's track record. If your intentions are to change 1/2 the car to make it run 11s, well, the MR isn't for you.
If you're going to mod the car to snot, buy an '03 with 5000 miles on it for $23k and go to town - you won't have a warranty anyway, so why buy new?

Yes, the 6-speed keeps the car in the powerband better, etc., but lets be honest: myself included, most will not notice. I don't go to the track either (yet).
Now, keep in mind, I am buying an MR, so I'm not even talking trash about it, I'm just saying, I understand why someone would say the MR is not worth the extra price, assuming there is a big difference. Same person would say a 5 series is not worth it over a 3 series since they have the same engine (I think). And I would agree.

I feel better that I will keep my 2003 Evo and it will keep up with the MR.... I won't even have to spend a bunch of $ to upgrade.
I think the anticipation of the MR was that there would be a significant difference in it and the standard Evo.....and in my opinion the difference is not big enough... no big deal.
hell some people will ***** about climate control and stupid **** like that... I thought the MR was going to be totally awesome, but instead it is just barely better than my 18 month old car.
I have a full race car, so I am not too concerned about lap times of my Evo vs an MR.... I do auto-x the Evo once in a while, but i doubt the MR will be noticibly faster.

If you plan to mod a car extensively than the ’05 VIII probably makes more sense.
The MR is 2 seconds faster than the 03 VIII on SOW. Two seconds is a lot there. Plus we don’t know what the MSRP of the MR is just yet. I will wait until MSRP is know before I do any value for money calculations.
I think if i were not an Evo owner, it would be a tossup between talking the dealer down on a standard 2005 with the increased hp, front lsd and adjustable diff.......or paying about $6k more to get the Evo.
If both were sold strictly at MSRP, then the MR would be the deal......
Enjoy your MR....lucky for you, I spent the 15 minutes on the phone with Mitsu when they called doing a survey to see what Evo owners were looking for in the next evo....

Just my .02.. Those who want the MR Edition just wants to buy it so they can "brag" to other evo owners that..." mine is the MR and hey I got a 6-speed and you don't" etc. bla,bla bla. Like Lancer saying, keep the 6k and put it into mods on a regular Evo. As far as the rims and suspension..........who here haven't upgraded theirs? The BBS looks ugly anyways.

Do some of you other guys really feel like this? I hope not

I think WestSideBilly made a good point. Not everyone plans to mod their Evo right away. I plan to try to ring as much out of it in stock form as I can and get close to it's limits before I go changing stuff. The suspension especially in our evos is very well dialed in as is, a stock vehicle can be a beautiful harmonious thing. I think the MR extras are worth 5k extra myself and I like the wheels, bilsteins, etc, how they are for the time being.

And once you start the mods.....there goes your warranty and we all know how Mitsu. is with warranty.
