Advice on UTEC purchase

My mods are listed below in my sig. If I want to do anything further (cams, WI, turbo upgrade) I'll probably need some sort of EM tuning equipment. I've been trying to stay away from this, but I'm pretty much at the limit of a flash.

I'm also extremely fustrated with this P0300 vibration and CEL I keep getting.
So, I figured I could solve both issues with a UTEC. I have a local tuner who is great with them and Subies, and I know he's tuned at least 1 for an Evo before - so no worries there.

What does everything think? As my mods stand now, would the Utec solve my P0300 problem for good AND allow me to extract some extra HP out of the vehicle as is? Then I would be free to continue down a mod path as wanted...

Thx.

Its really hard to say if the UTEC will "Solve" a p0300 code since nobody is really 100% certain what causes it. Its possible the ECU wouldn't "Notice" the conditions that trigger the code any longer with the UTEC installed, but I don't experience the problem and I don't know of anyone who has had the p0300 code with a UTEC so I can't talk from experience.

Open loop fueling and direct timing control likely would not be impacted by a P0300 code, but I can't tell you if it will never get the code again.

You don't have alot of mods, but if you want to be able to add more, you'll want to be able to retune. There are disadvantages and advantages to any engine management system out there.. the Flash has its limitations (you can't adjust it for new mods without having it done for you), the UTEC is one of the more flexible of the piggybacks, and the AEM tends to take a while to get the "Glitches" ironed out unless your working with a tuner who already has a good calibration file for "Daily driving" that only needs tweaking for your mods and some drivability mods..

I'm not looking to tune myself. If I were to get the UTEC, I would have a local tuner set me up some maps (if I got the remote selector) and would leave it at that.

One thing that is good about the flash I've already got is I've got the boost leveled out, removed the rev limiter and raised fuel cut off. Guess I'm trying to convince myself that I wouldn't be wasting the $$ I spent earlier on the reflash. Any help on that one?

You can store 5 maps and switch between them even without a remote map switch, it's just a little hard to reach to switch on UTEC.

Sorry to make you feel wasting your money, but UTEC can basically do everything you mentioned... raise rev limiter, boost control, even close loop boost control if you have MAP sensor. You might as well seel youe reflash and let your tuner tune your UTEC from scratch if you don't want to tune it yourself. But hey, tuning and tinkering is the fun part

I think the only way to sell a reflash is to trade ECU's. That doesn't sound like much fun.
But hey, if I decide to go with the UTEC, it's just a lesson learned. No biggie. Flash has been great for nearly 15 months!

I know for Works P2, you can sell it to another person, transfer the ownership by Works. Call them and find out details... you will have to send in your ECU and ask the buyer to send in his, so Works can reflash yours to OEM and do a P2 flash to the other. I think they charge a minimal amount for it.

I talked to him today. He's one of the top Subie tuners in the land, so I've got no worries on his abilities.
He actually shyed me away from going with further mods from where I'm at now. It's true, anything else would be a huge step.

Ok.. just so you know, being a UTEC tuner means he's familiar with the device, but if he's a Subie tuner, be aware that our engine reacts to timing and boost differently than a Subaru, so hopefully he's aware of the differences.

Bringing my old thread back to life.

Thought about selling the Evo and getting something different for a bit. I might put some more $$ into it instead. EM would be the next step. What do you think would work best for me as far as next step and mods?

Like EM and WI ya think?
