UTEC ruined my day big time.
you should upgrade firmware, newest utec firmware doesnt let you change maps above 15mph

Firmware is upgraded. I will be calling Jermaine in the morning. I just wanted to triple check every other possibility first. I have ran out of things to diagnos and it is indeed the UTEC. This thing with the intercooler sprayer is very interesting. We may be onto a problem here. I would love to hear from Turbo XS on this issue.

It is very odd and leaves a small puddle in my garage every morning. This would sound like there is some sort of short being created in the UTEC during that switch position. One thing I may try tonight is to put the car in on mode then wait for a sec before starting the car.
One time after turning the car off it left my IC sprayer going constantly and I had to unplug the battery to fix it. This only happened once though.

There is a pattern developing here.
A little update on the UTEC IC sprayer issue.
I did some more testing and this is what I have found.
Previously I thought I was getting the IC unit to turn on when the key was in the run position and the IC unit would turn on when switching to the Start position. This was incorrect. The issue actually only occurs when the key is in the ACC position and switching to the run position. If you hold the key in between the ACC and RUN positions the IC sprayer will just run. Even more interesting this will only occur the first time the UTEC turns on. What I mean by this is if you just flip the key to run then back to ACC and try to replicate the issue it wont occur. However, if you go back to ACC and wait about 10 seconds for the UTEC to lose power then the problem exists. This tells me its something in the startup sequence that causes the short. If I had some schematics for the board and the stock ECU I could figure out why this is occuring but alas I have neither. I wonder if this short is causing failures in the UTEC over time or something. This may be a big issue. Anyone calling Nathan?
One other thing. Version 1.7 doesnt stop you from upgrading the ECU if you are over 15mph. It only does a check against RPM's. I think the threshold is 3000rpms. I know this because Ive updated the map when I was going down the highway at 60 before. All I do is hit the clutch in. Stupid? Yeah probably.

I talked to Jermaine today and sent him my UTEC. They have great customer service and I am confident that the problem will be resolved. He has never heard of these problems with the I/C sprayer.
Sort of the same issue here....
I bought my Evo used and I noticed that the intercooler sprayer intermitantly (sp?) turns on. I have only noticed it when I turn off or on the car, but like I said its intermitant (again sp?) I only hope my Evo doesn't die on me. Anyway good luck!

I can say I experienced the same issue but since I put the alky kit in and disconnected the IC switch the noise obviously went away. Thats wierd about the IC kicking on though. Jermaine and the gang are awesome. One time the fan kept running non stop with my last UTEC and they replaced it no problem! Thumbs up.
There seems to be a pretty high DPM rate on the UTEC's lately. My subbie buddy has gone through 4 utecs in the last 6 months, one of them even started a fire in the car. Everything has been hooked up properly on his system but it is still odd that there a quite a few issues this year with the UTEC's.
