hehe I know that feeling.
I didnt have any issues using a Belkin USB to Serial port connection.
On the topic of "Why no USB" the hard part is getting a USB port driver working properly and efficiently on a strong arm processor. Serial port stuff has been around so long that its easy to use and requires very little overhead to operate compared to USB. I cant speak for TurboXS but believe me I know a lot about the problems since I do a lot of Electrical automation work that still uses DOS and a com port.
If you cant get it to go I only live down in Portland so maybe we can hook up at a half way point or something and Ill help you get it updated.

Thats interesting about USB on an ARM proc...I'm just a lowly application dev so I dont really know jack about low level stuff
I'm going over to a buddy's house tonight, he said his laptop has a serial port so I'll try that...if it doesn't work I just might have to take you up on the 1/2 way point offer
*crosses fingers*

i tried a random usb/serial cable i found at a mom/pop computer store and it doesn't work. the closest i've got it to working is a bit of garbage about turboxs and then a whole lot of garbage... i had to set both the hardware settings and the HT settings to 19.2, but it's still kinda whack. i've resorted to just borrowing a friend's laptop with a serial connection.
Yeah, My laptop has a serial port on it.. But I have a USB Serial adapter, I think its a Keyspan and it emulates a standard serial port perfectly..
The problem is the really cheap USB/Serial adapters don't emulate all the signals required to get a full handshake, typically those are used to adapt PDA serial cables to the PC where the handshake isnt required.
I've tried about 6 different ones, including a keyspan USB to 4 port serial adapter (my favorite because I can hide all the cables and just plug in a USB cable)

I've got the same problem. I have to do round-about way of "tricking" the Utec. (Another member came up with this). Once you open the Hyperlink, it never shows the Utec, I have to click, "recieve", then "ok" on next promt, then type is a few random leters in the next prompt, then return. It comes back with "unable to recieve", after I hit "ok", it opens to the Utec.
Pretty weak
Sometimes it will only open to the "tuner", like the Utec isn't there.
This is my only complaint, but it's so frustrating, I'm considering getting rid of the Utec because of it.
Any user tunable device should be user friendly and easily accessable. If there is only a certain USB adaptor that works, Turboxs should identify this to it's customers.
I'm seriously considering the ECUTEK. http://www.ecutek.com/news/ (once they finalize the user tunable dash for the Evo.)
