What should I spend my money on?

I have a couple hundred bucks extra right now and was planning on picking up a used tuner lite. I began to think about it though and do you think I would be better off getting a custom tune from a local shop and putting the tuner off for a while? How much do custom tunes usally go for? Any input is apreciated.

most shop will try to tune your car to 12:1 AFR for showing you the pretty high dyno number. if you have time, i would suggest you to get the tuner lite to tune it yourself on the road.

So I should be shooting for about 11.3 on 91 octane right?

Should it get richer with the rpms increasing?

Should I adjust that with the timing or the fuel, Ive always heard the power is in the timing and so is all the danger though.

I think he meant thats a link to the TurboXS products, new, Consumate salesman..

I think a wideband is a good idea for everyone, even those who are having their cars professionally tuned.

Cars generally tuned on a dyno, show a different AFR on the street, which is why they are generally tuned richer on the dyno.

Some tuners like to swing their dyno sticks, so its good to always know what your AFR's are after a tune anyway.

Everything you said is correct for the most part.. If you can give yourself a fairly safe baseline AFR targetting around 11.5 or richer at upper RPM (11.3 is a perfect target BTW) When the turbo spools, it will momentarily go lean, as you hit peak boost, you should be hitting your target AFR.. you can then try to maintain that..

Now after that, you would tune your boost levels, make your AFR refinements again, then hit your timing.. Very small steps.. Timing is a double edged sword since the place where you would make the most power, can also be the place where you can do the most damage if you get bad gas, change in air density, etc.. so tuning is about balance and restraint.

So how much better is a tuner lite then just a regular wideband?

^^^^maybe this question should have been a new thread

If you have a UTEC then it is much better because a regular wideband will not allow you to import AFR's into your logs. It also serves as a much more convienent place to plug your serial cable into
