retarding timing: UTEC more aggressive than stock?

retarding timing: UTEC more aggressive than stock?
I'm finally making some progress on tuning with the UTEC. I've got the timing map roughed in based on my Dynoflash timing numbers and I've got the OLF fuel map in the ballpark now (around 11.0-11.4). I also had my introduction to knock in the process of trying to test how much I could push the boost on 93. When I raised the boost about 1/2 psi from where I usually run it, I got 5 knock counts (CEL in my face) and the jerk of losing power from retarded timiing:

If I'm reading this right, the stock ECU would not have pulled timing? I found that a little surprising given that this really looks like real knock. I have the UTEC set to pull timing aggressively if it hears any knock and it sure did in a hurry. Any danger to the motor of it pulling too much timing too fast?
Then I turned the boost back down, and everything looked fine again:

The one thing I noticed though, is that, while on most of my 3rd gear pulls the UTEC timing was very close to the ECU timing (no surprise since I built the timing table off the dynoflash timing), after the pull with the knock this next pull shows that the ECU wanted to run less timing than it had been before. I guess this means it went into the high det timing map?

WR didn't change my Karman readings. How much boost are you running and do you have an open filter? I've got a Buschur cone filter on mine.
Also, have you pressure-tested your car? Leaks will raise Karman readings.

I actually started noticing a few similar traits.. I went back to an upgraded ignition and very quickly had to completely redo my tune.. My timing went from being able to run 23 degrees to 18/19 degrees on 93 octane pump, my boost stopped tapering which means my combustion was probably more efficient now than it was before since there's likely more exhaust volume.. I'm also now running out of injector.
My karmann readings are around 1780-1800hz at 20psi (redline) they always were around that, but the car feels more powerful and keeps pulling hard.
I can only imagine how the car will feel with a WR installed.. One thing I did manage to achieve was very linear power delivery, which is great for not getting loose exiting turns like it used to be. To me, the car just doesn't feel quick, but it never felt that way to me so I rely on the numbers from the logs I'm generating, I'll have to do some full 3rd gear pulls some time this week at 3am when it cools off a bit and air density is higher.

I do use an open filter, and there is one small leak in my IC (damn tow hook) but that will be patched up this weekend during the turbo install. The leak is a very tiny pin hole that I just happen to find by accident.
