MDP sensor and Power FC on Aussie EVO 8
MDP sensor and Power FC on Aussie EVO 8
Hi Guys!
Just wondering what role the MDP sensor plays on a power FC? Is it critical?
My reason for asking is I have an EVO 8 (I believe it is a EURO Spec model) I am trying run a Power FC on (Apexi Part number 414-M907) . It all seems to work fine however the engine checklight is on and my FC Commander highlights the MDP sensors as a Fault.
Upon futher investigation, I have discovered that the pin on the ECU where the MDP signal wire should go in (Pin 73 - if I recall correctly) is vacant.
Is it possible that this EVO does not have an MDP sensor, and if so can I run without it - and perhaps get rid of the fault by "piggy backing" a signal from another sensor?
I would be most grateful for any suggestions
Regards
Steve

Steve,
If your EVO is a Euro spec, then probably does not have a MDP (manifold differentail pressure) sensor. Look on your intake manifold to the left side before the fuel pressure regulator. It should be there if you have one. If not, that is why your check enigne light is on. I had the same problem with mine. We had it tuned with out it, then when we did finally get it installed, we had to change the fuel map greatly. The pin #73 is vacant so you will have to wire a mdp in. We just used a unit from a US EVO8 and wired it into the ecu. I made a adapter for the mdp and ran a vacuum line to it. I can post some pics for you if you like.
Thanks, Victor

I see...
Hi Victor,
Many thanks for your reply! I am entertaining thoughts of wiring 5v Map sensor into the pin just to extinguish the light. What do you think?
The fitting of a factory MDP Sensor sounds like the ideal situation - but I will have trouble getting one of those me thinks.
None the less I would be greatly interested to see ho youy have done yours, if it is not to much trouble I would love to see some pics. You wouldn't happen to have turned up a pinout diagram for a Euro spec ECU by anychance...?
Just curious as to what the exact role is of the MDP sensor? Altitude compensation? Emmisions? (I am so just guessing here - if you haven't figured it allready - I am not a tuner - just a bloke who is trying to make his power FC work properly.)
Thanks for your input - would be lost without helpful guys like yourself!

Steve,
I will send you some pics and the install I did on mine this weekend. I'm not exactly sure what role the MDP plays, buy when we tuned the car with out it, it ran great. When we installed the MDP, it ran very rich.So we had to re-tune it. I would use the factory MDP since you will not have to do anything but connect it.
Thanks, Victor

Work on the principal someone at the three diamonds thought their car needed one.. maybe for Californian emissions, dunno.. but the hard work is done. Parts are available, a bloke will send you pics and has told you what to expect when you fit it.
That way you wont **** a 60k motor car trying to save 100 bucks.

The MDP code is nothing odd. If you have D-Jetro model, it really doesn't matter and will not affect anything except for the CEL being on. Simply wire in the Map sensor off an EVO VIII and call it good. You do not have to hook up vacuum to it since it will read off the Apexi 3 bar map sensor anyway. The ECU just wants to see it there for some reason. Kind of odd if you ask me since it isn't being used.
