Stock ECU question

I'm looking to pick up a 2nd stock ecu so I can get it flashed without having my car down. My question is if the ECUs differ between 03-05. I have an 05 GSR so do I need to get an 05 ECU? Thanks in advance guys.

I was wondering of the same, but is it worth paying for an new ecu? I believe it's
not cheap.

Well for me, and I think a lot of others also, time is money and I can't afford to have the car down for a few days. I need a way to get to work. I wouldn't be buying the ECU new either. I'm hoping to find someone using a stand alone that's willing to sell their's. I'm guess around $200 would be the going price. So does anybody have an answer for me? Do I need to get an 05 ECU since I have an 05 Evo?

It's $800 for a new ecu from dealer that you can swap in and out with out the immobilzer killing the car. There are a few post about swapping the ecu and having problems with the vehicle immobilizer. I bought an ecu on ebay for $75 and have to take it in to get it programmed for transponder keys to work with it. I'll post more on it when I get it done.

aaahhhhh.....Glad you pointed that out man. The immobilizer didn't even cross my mind. Please let me know how it goes for you so I can do the same when I buy my ECU. One last thing, is the ECU you bought on eBay out of the same year Evo that you own? Thanks!

If anyone's interested I have a stock ECU from an 03 EVO I've been meaning to sell. I bought an extra ECU a while back and I don't have any uses for it. I just want to make my money back. Will sell for $200 shipped.

if you can drive to a tuner shop that does reflashes, they can do it though your diagnastics port in bout 20-30 min.
