So........whats the MBT timing on the 4G63? Possible to know by road tuning?

"In order to extract the maximum performance from an engine (100% water injected), one must tune towards an air/fuel ratio of around 12.5 and ignition timing as close to MBT timing."

This is a direct quote from aquamist.......12.5AFR is easy.......but the MBT part...

mbt timing can only be found on a load-dyno with real time torque readout.

With all this talk about EGTs...what is a good number? I have heard many say that they should be kept under 1600 F, but on my stock setup I was nearly pushing those EGTs. Funny thing is when I added my TBE they dropped several hundred degrees and fell more when I added my intercooler piping.

Probably had more to do with lack of cat converter, and richer a/f.

I am sure that you are correct, but what is a good EGT number? I ask because I will soon be tuning and EGTs are one of the variables that I can monitor. I know that there are many more to consider, but thought with all the talk about EGTs in this thread someone would be able to tell me what number to either shoot for or stay below would be.

In my experience you want to keep the timming fairly low where full boost hits, and slowly ramp it up from there. High timming at that point can put a big stress on the rods.

Water injection is just a little more tricky to tune because water unlike alky or meth it does not burn. Plus the temp of the water varys all the time, this is the reason I went with methanol up until yesterday because of an almost meth fire. I now run alky and am awaiting another AN fitting for the new lines.

water does not burn and its got 2 times the latent heat of vaporization of methanol Got to go real lean and a lot of timing. On a crude SMC/buschur and coolingmist system, its hard to run pure water.
