Ok, for the first go. Turn the car to run, but don't start. Go into the program and make sure the sensors are correct(cam angle and such) and set your injector size. Go through the fuel and timing tabs and make sure they are 0. If you have a silver box, set the knock saftey settings. Once everything looks good, start a log, then start the car. Let the car idle and warm up, make sure it reads/logs all of the sensors.

When you're happy the car is running good, grab a friend to run the laptop. Go do a couple 2nd gear base runs. Park somewhere and look over the logs. Make small adjustments until you're comfortable with the program. Get the fuel set before you start with timing. For second gear 11.0-11.5 is fine, 3rd and 4th will naturally be a little richer(safer).

Good addins are wideband and boost. I also have EGT.

Don't be overwhelmed with the 250rpm increments, until your comfortable make 500 or 1000 rpm changes, ie 4000,4250,4500,4750 = -2% | 5000,5250,5500,5750=-3%

That should get anyone through the initial startup and then some.

when i first wired my ECU + up and started teh car it ran like crap and i was getting a CEL. This was because the settings in the cam angle/crank angle sensor default to a 1999 DSM. I changed it over to EVO and it was perfect. next i just made sure all the logs were coming through. and that was it.

I've actually switched the defaults over to the EVO now. It defaults to "whatever car I own" (and I just bought an EVO).

is ecu + user friendly for a first time tuner? i really liked the k-pro program that hondata made for the rsx's, i'm hoping this is like that.

Yes! It's windows based software with dialogs providing options and settings just like when you use Microsoft Excel or Word.
