Mbc

Ive been doing some searches and i havent quite found what i needed...

i have a completely stock 06 gsr and i hooked up a boost gauge to see what the boost was.. It would spike at about 18psi and fall back to about 13-14. Im new to the evo but i have worked on dsm's for years. My question is it safe to take a MBC and turn it up to 18psi and would it hold or is there other variables (leaky BOV, exhaust, etc) that restrict it from holding boost.. and also if i am able to hold the boost at around 18 is the stock tune safe or does it need flashed.. i would imagine that the boost table on the map would be good for that much til redline but i would like to hear it from someone else..

thanks

i think this is the wrong section to post in...but if you can I dont think you'd have any problems holding 18PSI...you could probably spike 21 and taper down to 18/17

Boost leaks will cause boost to taper off, however, what you are seeing is most likely the factory boost solenoid settings to peak at 19.5 then taper off to 16. Putting a manual boost controller will eliminate the tampering off of boost and you can turn the boost up to 21psi and make more power. One of the cheapest and best things you can do to make your evo faster. Hope this answers your question

Can anyone suggest a good MBC to use? I see so many people going with so many different kinds. I just need something simple and user friendly. Thanks.

most people wait to get a reflash until they have certain mods done to their car so that they don't have to keep going back and paying for a reflash everytime they add something new. i got my reflash 3 years ago after a walbro, tbe and intake. will be getting another reflash for my future mods.

The most important mod is a tune (flash), because the factory tune is so rich, and with the IXs, you get TONS of power from tuning of the AFRs, timing, and MIVEC.

I don't recommend getting an MBC alone just to combat the stock taper. Get it along with an exhaust and tune. That's why I have my package setup to include all 3 of those parts. I don't really recommend trying to raise boost on the stock exhaust. You'll get much m ore benefit from even a basic mail-in flash ($199 shipped), because that will raise your boost to 20-21psi with very little taper while also giving tons of power from tuning.

Fast-as-****, I recommend the MBC that I also recommend - the one in my package.

does the flash change the variable on the stock boost controller or do you still need an MBC

the flash changes the level. i have the vishnu xflash and it raised my boost from stock 19.5, taper to 16, up to 22, tapering to 21. if it is hot, humid or when i go up in altitude, my boost lowers due to the atmospheric conditions. i want an mbc to be able to control my boost level during these factors.

Warr-thanks, i'll check it out.

I have two friends near me that ran 19 psi before tuning with a MBC and then more boost after more parts and a tune. Me personally, it makes me nervous to run more boost on the stock ECU settings. But like Warr and a lot of people will tell you, a tune is probably the most important thing when modding. Also you asked about what MBC. I have heard very good things about the Forge and even better things overall about the Hallman. Both will work very, very well
