UTEC on EVO 9?
UTEC on EVO 9?
I was wondering if anyone knew if the TurboXS UTEC will work on the EVO 9 MR? I know the 8 and 9 are essentially the same, but I wasn't sure if it would work becaust of the variable cam timing. If anyone has put it on their EVO 9 please let me know how / if it worked for you. Any input is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!
It will not work with the EVO9... The 2006 model has a new ECU wiring harness, functionally its similar but since the connectors are different, you cannot use the UTEC for the Evo8...
Next question.. Will there be one for the Evo9?? Well, My guess is probably not.. There aren't a huge amount of cars out there with this new ECU to justify the development of a new platform, and the future of this specific CT9A chassis Evo is known to be ending in 2007.. Good business sense would say that even if there are 20,000 cars with that ECU out there, the market for the UTEC would be fairly small, maybe 2000 new units IF that... and development costs probably would means it would cost more to produce, I'd guess they would have to sell them at a loss just to get them out there at a fair price.

We all know they have been focusing on the 350z and WRX/STI units.. well, simply its because theres a way bigger market.. the 350z until recently didn't have many options for engine management.. And both the Subaru and 350z have hundreds of thousands of cars on the road which means a much larger potential market.
The Evo 8, had about 15,000 units a year at most, and even that number may be lower in reality.. I think 8000 a year made it to the USA from 2003-2005.. Not a large amount of cars.. Lower production numbers for this car means its hard to produce high-tech gadgets specifically for the Evo for an inexpensive price, since the cost of development has to be passed along to the end user.. Some products are cheap because their easy to develop and cheap to produce, and don't require alot of hard setup to make them for our cars.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a conversion harness turn up eventually, but at the moment there isn't anything..
