Since the AP would save your works flash it really would not matter. If you ever wanted to go back to 100% stock rom you would need to reflash your ecu with a stock rom. But your tuner can tune your accessport fine after you install it on your car.

Hello, please allow me to introduce myself.

But they could have at least said they weren't in a position to discuss it.
MalibuJack, I apologize about that. I have not payed attention to these forums until recently. I did not have much information about the new AccessPORT features becuase we have been working on that lately. Now that the new AccessPORT is out I can get back to responding on the forums.

The stock boost control system has proven to work very well while we have been testing. I would prefer to use a closed-loop system such as the stock EVO system to control boost. If it overboosts the system will adjust, if it underboosts the system will adjust...which is something I like. The boost on the 9cm2 housings is a little difficult to maintain all the way to redline since the exhaust gas back-pressure starts to force the WG valves open. Regardless, we have found it best to hold boost out for as long as the camshafts allow the air to get into the motor. We have been track testing our calibrations at MMP for the last while and those results have been good as well.

My name is Christian, I am one of the calibrators at Cobb Tuning. I wanted to let you know that we have begun to release some of our technical documentation about the EVOs. Please go to this link to our forums where we have hosted the document. We hope to get more documents published at the begining of the year. We would like to educate the EVO owners of our findings in order to give them a better understanding of why we developed some of our calibrations or hardware the way we did. Please post in the EVO section of our forums if you have any questions and we will do our best to address your concerns.

Take care,
Christian.

So I have another question about this AP stuff.

I have heard that the AP is ECU specific??? Is this right?

If so if the system wasn't what people expected how are they to sell it? Or are we stuck with a $900 paperweight?

As I understand it, the AccessPORT unit will "marry" itself to your specific ECU. So you can't buy one AccessPORT unit and tune all your peeps EVOs. Each EVO owner will need to buy their own AccessPORT.

If you move up to a fully programmable ECU for example, the AccessPORT can be "un-married" from your ECU - meaning ECU is reflashed back to stock - and you can resell the AccessPORT.

The new AccessPORT is a device which will allow you to reprogram your ECU. It will also give you the ability to purchase the StreetTUNER software so you can tune, datalog, etc. your vehicle. The AccessPORT for the EVOs will most likely work like it does for the Subarus, the device will autodetect which model you have and program the ECU from there. Once the programming is complete it will not be able to program another vehicle unless the device is unmarried. The price for the Mitsubishi EVO AccessPORT should be close to the current price for the Subaru AP ~$695.

Take care,
Christian.

Christian are you going to be tuning Evo's when the Accessport comes out? It will be awesome to have a great tuner located somewhat close to me ( byt the way this is Jeremy, I used to have a blue Evo).

This is good news for Cobb guys I guess..but for evo
owners I don't understand why you wouldn't simply buy the cable and use re-flash
your ECU.

My car is in an ongoing tuning process. What exactly do you mean by tuning complete? So your saying $695 for the Access port and another $195 for the Tuning software. Maybe you guys could enlighten us a little about why we should spend $900 on this.

This is what im talking about. I would get ecu flashed and be done with it. Just get a re-tune as you see fit after. The results speak for themselves.

I would use it just so I can control my boost, that way I can go from a alky map to a autox map that does not use alky without any issues. If I use ECUflash I am going to have to make sure I turn my MBC down everytime, or bad things would happen.
