COBB is making Access Port for Evo
Not the case at all. Mapping the EVO isn't a problem at all, rather easy honestly. If you remember the name of the tech you spoke with, let me know so I can clear up the issue for him.
What we're working on currently, in order to release the AccessPORT for the EVOs, is a new GUI (Graphical User Interface). The current implementation has some limitation that we've run into during our Subaru release. Its not so much an issue with regards to how the user interacts with the device but rather the back-end implementation on the programming side that effects our ability to add in new features, improve startup time, functional speed, etc. Building in EVO support to the way the GUI works now would take nearly as long as just re-implementing the GUI, so it only makes sense to make it better now.
I still can't make an exact prediction for a release date but I know we're not 1-2 weeks away...nor are we 4+ months away. More like sometime in-between. And believe me, we're trying to get it out as soon as possible. Not only can we not release the EVO AccessPORT until the new GUI is complete, we're also sitting on the same capabilities with Nissan and Mazda ECUs with anxious enthusiasts in those markets as well. So, we have absolutely no reason to not be highly motivated to get it done.
Cheers,
Trey @ COBB

I wonder how Cobb is going to develop staged setups for Evos considering we have so many options for power add ons.
For Example a Cobb stage 2 for a STi consists of only a Turboback exhaust and Accessport.

That's an excellent point, we definitely have a difficult task ahead if we expect to make everyone happy and cover every possible part/turbo/injector combination out there. Frankly, it'll be impossible. That's also true for the Subaru community, we can't make maps for every combination and make everyone happy.
I would look to what we've done for the 2.0L WRX as an example of we'd have to do for the EVO market, if the AccessPORT is even well received. For those cars, we have maps for something like 4-5 different turbos, a few different injectors, etc. So, it can be done. It'll all depend on what the market demands.
A large source of demand for us with the EVO market are from the tuners themselves. We're aware some tools already exist for them, but even so they are quite anxious for us to release ours for one reason or another. That, and we want to follow through with our promise to make it available. If it proves popular with the EVO 8/9 crowd, then awesome! We're happy for that. If not, we'll have to understand we were just too late to market and we can set our sights on the EVO X and being early (if not first) to market with it.
At the end of the day, I don't think it's in my company's best interest to just give up on supporting the EVO market with the AccessPORT and perhaps even other parts. Who knows what the future may bring...

I still think it will be well received. I already have a list of customers waiting for it to become available.
With the AMAZING support cobb has shown with the Subaru port and just how good of a company they are I think that alone is enough reason to choose it over other ECU options out there.
I mean just last night cobb threw a bbq just to show the locals around here thanks and there was a huge turn out. Not to mention the support they have given me on my own vehicle.

Trey,
For those of us who are considering the AccessPORT not just for whatever staged set-ups COBB offers, but as an actual tuning tool, my question is this: How long after the AccessPORT is released for the EVO will it take for the necessary StreetTUNER/ProTUNER software to be available to tuner shops?

I know I am definetly going to get one for my Evo. A lot of people have been complaining about the amount of time it's taking to come out but it's not all that bad, I know that Cobb is doing plenty of testing this thing which means they are getting all the bugs out of it. I personally want the accessport to be as good as it can be so...

Definitely take your time with it guys (COBB). We rather have a polished product than a hack. Judging from how it came out for subbies, i know we can expect a great product. What's another few months anyway? Considering that just a year ago i was complaining to one DSM guy that evo's don't have anything like the AccessPort, making things more cumbersome for some of the enthusiasts.
If I were in the market for EM I would hold off untll cobb releases the ap and tuner for the evo. I started with an ap stage 1 then of course went stage 2 and what a kick in the but that was. Then the tuner was installed and I had Dave Hall ( a cobb and perrin dealer ) build me a custom map and it was like stage 2 all over again and then some. What a difference a custom map makes. The cobb tuner program is awsome and worth waiting for.
Trey-
Is it possible for you to post the dyno graphs that will be released for stage 1 and 2 for both the VIII and IX? I would assume since you are only left working out issues with the AP GUI that the maps are complete. Is that true? If so, I and many others would love to see them to give us something to keep looking forward to.

Do you know anyone who has had their IX tuned with Stage 1 or 2 at Cobb? I am curious to see what numbers my IX will make with a Cobb tune. I assume that it will make more than the VIII, but how much more?
Thanks for your help.
