Are custom tunes always better than any mail-in flashes???

Hello, fellow enthusiast!

My car is a daily driver with occasional track-times. So, reliability is a major factor for my decision. Originally, I was planning to take my car to a local tuner for the custom dyno tune, but he no longer works there. So, I am in the process of searching for the alternatives. FYI, I have TBE and drop-in filter. My choices are:

1) Custom Dynoflash

2) Vishnu X-flash (mail-in)

3) Works P2 (mail-in)

* Not in the order of preference

As you can see, Dynoflash is the only option if I want a custom tune. It's also the cheapest despite it's a custom dyno tune. However, the money is not my primary concern. I want a good and reliable tune! I am not saying that Dynoflash is bad or anything, but I've read a couple of interesting info about Dynoflash from various sources including this forum. Also, most of his customers and even Al himself, are drag-racers and seem to judge the ecu tuning based on quarter-mile results. Hence, I am little reluctant to take my car to Dynoflash.

However, I am a firm believer that custom tune is the only way to go when it comes to the ECU flash. There, I have a conflict of interest; I want a custom tune, but I don't want Dynoflash. I want to know your thoughts on this!!!

Always is a big term. But they should be better. WORKS offers a factory matched warranty.

YES they are...

Also dont limit yourself, keep Jestr Tuning in mind for tuning that ECU... John is the MAN!

He sat with me for the whole time my car was being tuned and asked me what I WANTED for my car. He explained what the changes would give me and how they would effect my overall tune. Therefore the car was tuned for MY liking and my driving style.

This sounds like what you would benefit from the most.

He's based out of Orlando FL....BUT he does tuning trips all over. If you guys up in Mass can get 5 ppl together it'll be the BEST money you spent on the car.

Not in Mass,
Contact KTR Performance in Ayer Mass and see if you can get a custom tune.

I am definitely considering WORKS P2 as they seem to provide reliable products. Also, 'factory-matched warranty' sounds good, too!!!

The local tuner, whom I mentioned before was Franz@KTR. Unfortunately, he left KTR and KTR doesn't offer custom tuning at this moment since they don't have a tuner.

Also keep in mind that I ( MY OPINION) dont want ANYONE who's doesnt have a whole lot of EVO tuning experience mess with my car. John Estrada has been tuning 4G63 DSM's since waaaaaay back in the day as well as EVO's as soon as the technology was available. He is vey well respected in the 4G community. Do a little research on it, dont just take my word for it.

Dan,

I will definitely look into 'Jster-tuning'. But, it is not that easy to gather enough ppl to make this happen. I tried it before, although it was an attempt to bring another tuner.

Oh yeah I know man tell me about it. Tried here in Charleston myself. Just giving you options man, I know alot of times people just throw up the common names etc. IF you can get Johns services you would not be dissapointed at all.

Best of luck with whatever you end up deciding. The IX is a great platform to mod brother...happy boosting!

Really...? When I talked to them last week, they said that they're still looking for a new tuner. Regardless, I am not paying $1100 if it's not Franz.

Edit: I just called KTR and they don't have a tuner yet.

1100..... HOLY **** ! For that kind of money you can get like 4 tunes from Jestr.... LOL you would only need one other person. bwhahahahahahahahahahaha

I hope that 1100 includes a spare ECU, detailing, new rims and some head from a hot chick.
