Cobb Access Port
Good question. I am curious myself. I talked to one of the guys that tunes at a local shop and he said he was impressed with it so far, I guess he got a sneek preview from Cobb, but they do a lot of business with Cobb, so it is nothing unbelievable.
From my understanding they are still in testing and everything. There is still a long wait for these, but as soon as these are up we will make sure we inform you guys.
We sell these in the WRX market, and these are the best selling item. Everyone seems to love the simplicity of the system, and no one has yet to complain about these units.

do you think they wil ba able to make simple custom tunes? like it i were to swap out my VIII turbo for a IX? some thing that does not really require a tune, but will make it better.

I've got a good friend that has had the following on Evo's and STI's for tuning:
Utec, Cobb AP, Standalone.
He prefers the Cobb to all personally. Jorge is a really good tuner for these in the midwest Subie market. I've had piggypacks and flashes myself. All have pluses and minues imo. I'll be happy just to have another option!

To be capable of what the cobb is, it wont be free. You will need the cable ($90) and a laptop/pda to switch maps. With the cobb, you can also run their OTS maps and never need a tune. Honestly, I'd trust their OTS maps more than a lot of the other ones that are floating around.
My old STi ran great on the OTS maps, and since they come in stages, its not a new tune each time you add mods
Its a great unit for those who dont need/want/have access to a good dyno tuner
Much better than ecutek as well IMO

Cobb doesnt provide tuning, but they offer OTS maps for certain mods. Ie they have maps for stock cars on 100 octane (for aut0-x), they also have a special map for the 06 wrx if you have the STi turbo/TMIC, since the blocks are now the same
I suggest checking out cobbtuning.com and seeing how many maps they offer
If you want a custom tune, then you need a tuner with the Protuner software, or you can tune yourself with their street tuner software

Just to provide a little more information. You are able to play with your maps on your own by buying a software COBB offers. http://www.gnvmotorsports.com/catalo...roducts_id=681
This is for a subaru, but expect something almost exactly like this for the evo.

I have a Cobb AccessPORT for my STi. I love it. It does a ton of things, and it's very safe.
A lot of people argue that while they see good gains, better gains can be had elsewhere (UTEK, ECUTEK), but for a mail-order program, it's great.
The AccessPORT's tuning is more conservative than some of the others, and that's not such a bad thing. It's better to be safe and enjoy your vehicle than sorry and have problems.
I have never experienced any negative effects from running my AccessPORT aside from maybe a slight increase in fuel consumption, but that's going to be normal when running a higher level of boost (My car peeks at around 17 psi).
The AccessPORT does it all. It's a really nice product. What's really cool is that you can download additional maps straight from Cobb's website, too!
I'd expect that the AccessPORT for the Evo will be just as good as the one for the STi/STI.

You will see the same exact gains as a Utec/ecutek if you get yours pro-tuned. They are only seeing better numbers since they are custom tuned . There is nothing the AP can't do that any other EM unit can (besides a Stand-alone). In fact its better than ecutek (IMO) since you dont gotta flash the ECU to run a different fuel map (you can run a real time map off )
The new version will not only hold the maps developed by Cobb which includes handy items like a anti theft map and valet mode, but I beleive it will also have room to store customzed maps. If you have a tuner he might be able to develop different maps that you can just save on this thing. Switching maps is a breeze and you don't need any computer. just the AP. It also will have a G-tech type function for calculating 0 to 60 and quarter mile times.
