any drawback on ECU+
any drawback on ECU+
Hello all.
I am looking into engine management, initially EMS vs ECUFlash vs another dynotunning? but, ECU+ seems like it can do almost everything!
what are the things that ECU+ can't do like EMS?
what's the real catch of ECU+?
is P0300 code the problem with ECU+?
please let me know since i am newbie to ECU+.
happy holiday everyone!

Hi
I bought ECU+ before the advent of ECUflash, as I though that it was the best method for the self tuner. It can manipulate both fuel and ignition, it can intergrate boost, 02 and EGT logging. Has the ability to scale injectors run different MAFs and do some niffty things with idle.
For me though ECU+'s big big ace, is the logging software. Its is simply great to use, the way you can compare all the data, add multipul pulls together and the dyno function is really nice as well.
I would say that it is a great tuning device, even if you could only log with it, it would still be well worth the investment.

It's a piggyback so it's somewhat limited to what it can do. As time progresses flashes are going to get more and more powerful and have much wider range of functions. Having an integrated datalogger is one a really nice feature, it makes tuning go a lot faster.
I agree with the logging and other great features..
1) Logging is second to none, Boost, AFR, EGT, unclipped MAF, etc..
2) Works BEST in conjunction with a reflash, however its great for testing new settings and adjustments without repeatedly reflashing trial and error..
3) OBD-II Diagnostics built in, you can check and reset CEL codes, etc. (MUT in the future?)
4) BUILT IN MAF TRANSLATOR!!! As of now, the ECU only handles the stock mitsubishi MAF
5) MAF Clamping at idle to help with poor airflow through the MAF at idle with cams or other low vacuum conditions.
Combine any two of those things and you have a value, look at them all, and you can undersstand why its worth the money.
The ECU+ is a piggyback, and like any piggyback (with the exception of the UTEC) it is limited by the ECU's programming for RPM, Fuel cut, etc.. This is why it works best in conjunction with a reflash. The difference is when you have both the ECU+ and Reflash capabilities, you have logging, diagnostics, and tuning abilities that are unmatched.

I'm kind of curious why more people don't use Dsmlink in their Evo's. It's just a small amount of rewiring, or getting a conversion harness made. Dsmlink is probably one of the most powerful tuning options out there short of a standalone and it's pretty cheap.

Most people probably dont know you can.

This is Not really an appropriate place to discuss the DSMLink though.. Can you post a new thread in the general engine management forum and I'll post my thoughts there.
DSMlink's advantage is definitely that it has OBD-II though..
Thank you gusy, MJ and AK.
I am very newbie to tunning and there are so many out there, can't decide. almost wanted to buy EMS, but...rethinking again.
I think a couple(? maybe alot more) of people both uses ECU+ and ECUFlash.
i think i will go without that route.

(Note that I have nothing at all against the 'link, but it seems strange that people want to take something not designed for the EVOs and make it work.)

I'm also a newbie when it comes to tuning and the advice I find on the forums are very helpful. I love tom collins for his awesome work and great support!
The logging features making tuning a whole lot easier than just taking my car to some half-assed tuner who's just trying to push me out of their shop. I've had my ecu+ for 6 months and honestly I've had the P0300 probably twice, which in my regards is not so bad. After my first month of owning it, I noticed my car ran much better and my gas mileage improved. My friend also noticed it and he sold his exede and also purchased an ECU+. Now, there's three evos I know of that use tom's piggyback. Hey Tom, If you're ever in the Los Angeles Area, just PM me or post on the forums; We'll take care of you!
