Boost gauge "T" Question? Never been asked before!

Ok, I did countless hours of research before deciding to install this myself, but I have a question before I install it. Im installing a Stewart Warner 30"-25psi mechanical boost gauge in my EVO IX Se in the morning, and most of the write-ups I have seen are tapping into the FPR line. I "think" I read thats where the MR's have the "T" also.

I did however come accross a few threads sugesting that this was a VERY bad idea! One in particular showed the vac line "T" in at the line that runs to the BOV. I like this point much better, but I bought the 42 draft designs tubing kit that comes with a "T" for the FPR line. My question is, is the inner diameter of the BOV line the same as the FPR line? The BOV line is clearly a larger outter diameter, and id rather not pull it off to check since its on there realy good as is! Do I need a bigger "T" for the BOV line?

Even if the 42 draft designs "T" will work, is ther a better "T" than the one I have? It seems kinda frail! Ill post a pic of both locations of the lines for referance. pic 1 is the FPR line, and pic 2 is the BOV line. Thanks guys!

The diameter of the vacuum hose at the BOV is 6mm while the FPR is 4mm.

Why would taping the FPR be any worse then tapping the BOV line? Either way you can end up with the same vacuum leak that would cause the same problems whether it was at the FPR or the BOV. A leak anywhere in the vacuum system can cause the FPR to malfunction.

The only difference I would see is just the size of diamter of the tubing. Besides that nothing else should conflict. Since adding a " T " for reading of vacuum/boost is harmless.

All it's gonna do is read the air and send the reading to the gauge in the cockpit.

Wouldn't it be different readings since the air will be more compressed in the 4mm diameter than the 6mm tubing?

once pressure has built up in the closed tubing, then the pressure reads the same.. If there is a leak, then it could give mixed readings, but it still would be relative to how big the leak is..

I'd say go for the FPR line, it seems to work best for most and I'm sure others have tried the BOV line but I'd go off other's experience on this one... Keep me posted.

BOV line.... I believe thats a pic of my engine bay lol, Thats what I decided to go with its just being safe against the line coming off of the fpr imo.

Yea, thanks johnEB! I ended up "T"ing off the BOV after reading your post and it works great. I also had to ask myself WWBD?! (What would Buschur do?) Happy I installed the gauge too, when down shifting from 5-4 and WOT im getting a boost spike of 22-23 with my TBE!! Up shifts hit right on the $$$ though. I need to get a MBC and pump, so I can get-r-tuned! Hit the fuel cut once too. Man that was anoying! just going to drive it easy till I put the rest of the parts in. Thanks again guys!

Did you use the same t piece or did you need to get another one that was larger for the BOV line?

No, the "T" worked just fine. My only recomendation if someone else tapes the BOV line would be to buy the longer tubing kit from 42 draft designs. I would have liked to have had a "little" more room to play with since I went a little furthur across than the FPR line the kit was intended for. The kit fit perfect, but there was NO extra hose.
