Dont waste $ on Racegas unless tuned on it?

Race gas will not gain you any power unless: you turn up boost, increase timing on a knock limited engine, are already experiencing knock, or the fuel is oxygenated. It's possible you might lose a tiny bit of power if the fuel has a slower burn rate and you don't change boost and/or timing. Unless you just like having a little extra safety, it's not worth using race gas unless you're tuned for it.

I Read somewhere that if you dump racegas in your tank, it is like a "Magic" 40 AWHP gain over pumpgas, even without a tune.

Some people say unless you "tweak this and that", pull timing, lean it out, etc... while running on Racegas, it will ACTUALLY COST you HP, and slow you down. (Not to mention wasting money on it). I was guilty of going to the local dragstrip, and thought If I just dump in this racegas, I am automatically going up in HP, and down on E.T.'s. (back in '03 I thought this) Apparently this is a falsehood? You gain HP on the dyno while on racegas, BECAUSE you are tuning for it and doing the "tweaking" then and there.

So after all that, my question is this:

1. Will racegas alone give you gains in HP, just by dumping it in the tank?
Lets say........in a stock trim car?

I bring this up, as I was at the local dragstrip Friday, and I heard some kids talking about the gains they get JUST by dumping in racegas without tuning for it.
dumping in race gas when you're running a pump gas tune = being incredibly rich which among other things can cause spark blowout and really slow a car down. You'll need to lean the AFR out, raise the timing and boost to take full advantage of it.

I just throw a few gallons into a full tank as insurance for track days. Race gas has never changed my AFR's. And yes I have check with wideband.

I run a regular race gas mix, 3 gallons of 100, the rest on 91. Works out to about a 93-94 octane gas mix.

this helps to keep the car knock free here in CA. At $3.80/gallon for 91, and $5.39/gallon for 100, it's pretty afforadable these days.

I've datalogged stock EVO's running our crappy 91 octane gas.. each of which had some knock/timing pulled. Mixing a bit of 100/91 will make that car a little faster, as it will no longer have that knock and lower timing advance.. .

Yeah! What he said!

I recently acquired a 2005 EVO 8 MR. I thought it ran good on the 91 octane here in Las Vegas, however I recently tried 100 octane and the 'butt' dyno says there's a big difference. I can get 100 octane for $4.99/gal and don't use the EVO as a daily driver so I think I'm going to run 100 from now on. When I start modding the car and get a tune I assume I can take better advantage of the higher octane.

I might also experiment with mixing the 91 and 100 to save some $$$.
