With any modification, there are downsides. The main one for this is cost. With everything I spent on electronics, I could have just gotten an AEM EMS. But I like trying different things.

I haven't had many issues so far. I originally got the MAFT Pro to run a speed/density setup. I had huge problems tuning the throttle tip in, so I picked up the GM MAF off ebay for $30. I can switch between the MAF and speed/density fairly quickly (like when the coupler blows off the throttle body). Tuning was very straight forward. My only correction in the MAFT Pro is @ idle and mid range cruising. I am adding fuel to compensate for the breather filter I have on the valve cover that causes some unmetered air to enter the system. All other corrections are done within the ECU itself. I can run a VTA BOV with no issues at all.

I will probably be ditching my MAFT Pro in the near future. BEZ is working on a custom flash that will allow me to use the JDM MAP sensor in an ECU based speed/density setup.

Throttle tip in is like accel enrichment. When you make large throttle angle changes, the MAF sensor can't compensate quickly enough so the ECU dumps fuel when it sees the thottle open to prevent a lean condition. This situation is even worse using a MAP sensor because it will even lag behind a MAF sensor. The MAFT Pro has a tuning section specifically for adding fuel based on throttle change and MAP change. I could never get mine setup correctly. Unless I eased slowly into the throttle, it would lean out to the point of nearly stalling. After that, though, the car ran great. You can imagine how annoying that would be at stopsigns and lights. I spent 3 hrs on a dyno trying to tune the throttle tip in, but to no avail. I think a lot of it had to do with sensor location and lack of support on the MAFT side. I want to use speed/density, but I think the stock ECU/JDM MAP combo will be much easier to tune.

ahhh so is that why sometimes when I back of the throttle and then jump back on slightly I get a weird rumbling/surging feeling?

That or it could be an issue with the transition from open/closed loop.
