Funny looking dyno graph inside!

We have not posted many, if any dyno graphs from the new 2.5l motor in the EVO IX rally car. We have since went away from the TME turbo and factory manifold as well.

As you look over the graphs, etc - remember this car has a 34 mm restrictor only 50 mm away from the compressor wheel!

Basic engine overview:

102 mm stroke Brian Crower crankshaft
STD length Manley H beam rods
Custom Wiseco 10.25:1 pistons, 87 mm bore
2.4l 4g64 block - with modification to work with MIVEC cams

Cosworth camshafts / custom
Manley STD size SS valves
Manley Ti retainers
Manley single springs
SBR "rally" port work

Cosworth head studs
Cometic head gasket
ARP main studs

Turbocharger and exhaust:

Garrett GT28RS with 34 mm inlet restrictor
Hafe cast SS manifold
Hafe cast SS o2 housing
44 mm Tial WG
Re-circ into o2 housing
2.5" Vibrant custom exhaust with cat converter

The highest power output before the engine/ turbo/ tuning changes was 450 ft/lbs and 285 WHP at 25 PSI. With the help of "Franz Diebold" a master Autronic tuner we were able to extract some serious power out of this new combination. (Franz if you are on the forum, please feel free to jump in here)

You will notice on the boost graph we ran a maximum of 23.3 PSI. You will also notice the 34 mm restrictor doing it's job! Runs were started at 2500 RPM and sweeps were seven seconds long.

All I can say is - WOW - that's a lot of HP and TQ through a 34 mm restrictor! I look forward to testing this motor in my personal car (GT3076R) some time in mid September, the build is already underway as I understand this will be a much better "real world" test without the 34 mm restrictor!

On a side note, who is going to the X games to watch the rally on August 5th? If you will be in La - shoot me a message at mh@slowboyracing.com - we will make sure to meet up.

Looks really good Guys! I would love to come over and check that car out some time. I have quite a bit of experience with restricted motors, specifically 20mm restrictor NA's. Those graphs are impressive and look about right for that setup. Nothing like choking the flow!

Thanks Mike, and Good Luck at the X games!

I will be purchasing my dyno in the next 3 years, and am pretty confident that I will be choosing a Mainline AWD1500. Not sure if you have heard of it, there are only 3 in the US, its basically a DD but with better static load control and the best Data Acq in my opinion. All the good stuff is from Austrailia! I am also fond, and have considered the DynaPacks, and have used one in the past. Mabey I could come out an use yours to get a better feel for it before I make a decision. Let me know!

Sorry, but what exactly does the restrictor do? I don't understand.

The Restrictor is literally a 34mm (1.34in) hole that the turbo must pull air through. Typically on turbo cars that must run restrictors in their class of racing, the restrictor is before the turbo.

Think of it as a 1.34 inch intake the turbo is pulling air through.

On NA cars, the restrictors are before the Throttle Body.

What SBR has accomplished through their restrictor is really quite amazing. There is nothing more satisfying than making big power through a little hole; sonic air velocities and choked flow! Again, great job SBR!
